Fraser Thomson (rugby Union)
Fraser Thomson (born 18 May 1989) is a former Scotland Club XV international rugby union player, previously with Glasgow Warriors, Melrose RFC, Southern Knights and Sale Sharks. He now coaches Gala RFC, Gala. Rugby Union career Amateur career Thomson began playing rugby union for his home club Gala RFC, Gala. He played for Gala for 3 seasons. Thomson then played for Melrose RFC, Melrose. He spent 11 seasons at Melrose making 234 appearances and scoring 106 tries. With the club he won the Scottish Premiership 4 times, the Scottish Cup 2 times and also won the 2011 Melrose Sevens with the club. Professional career In 2011 he played for Sale Sharks but did not make the first team, instead scoring tries for their reserve side. In the game of rugby union, there are 15 players on each team, comprising eight forwards (wearing jerseys numbered 1–8) and seven backs (numbered 9–15). In addition, there may be up to eight replacement players "on the bench", numbered 16–23. Players are not restricted to a single position, although they generally specialise in just one or two that suit their skills and body types. Players that play multiple positions are called "utility players". Forwards compete for the ball in scrums and line-outs and are generally bigger and stronger than the backs. Scotland Club XV
The Scotland national Club XV rugby union team is one of several national rugby union teams behind the Scottish national side. The national Club XV takes the best players from club rugby in Scotland to form a side that regularly competes with a similar Ireland Club XV. The two teams play each other annually for the Dalriada Cup. The Scotland Club XV side also regularly play with the similar England Counties XV since 2014. The French also have a Club XV side named the France Federale which the Scotland Club XV have played. Scotland Club XV has also played a Wales Club XV.
