Fraser Basin Council
The Fraser Basin Council is a charitable non-profit organization devoted to advancing sustainability in the Fraser Basin and across BC. The mandate of the organization is, "To advance sustainability in British Columbia, with a core focus on the Fraser River Basin." The Council has 38 Directors: an "impartial" Chairperson and 37 Directors representing the four orders of government (federal, provincial, local and First Nations), the private sector and civil society. Decisions are by consensus. The Fraser Basin Council serves as facilitator and educator, partnering with others on sustainability issues and initiatives, including flood management, smart planning for communities, climate change action and adaptation, air quality improvement, green fleets, healthy watersheds, sustainable fisheries, and sustainability reporting and education. Fraser Plateau And Basin Complex
The Fraser Plateau and Basin Complex is an ecoregion, as defined by the World Wildlife Fund. It encompasses the middle reaches of the watershed of the Fraser River as it traverses the northern part of the Interior Plateau of British Columbia. The WWF ecoregion is similar in description to two of the ecoregions within Environment Canada, Environment Canada's ''Montane Cordillera Ecozone:'' ''The Fraser Basin'' and the ''Fraser Plateau.'' Much of the Fraser Plateau is underlain by volcanic rocks which have steep escarpments along rivers and Stream, creeks and almost flat upper surfaces. Physiographically, the Fraser Basin is a section of the larger Northern Plateaus province, which in turn is part of the larger Intermontane Plateaus physiographic division.
