Franz Novotny (born 30 May 1949) is an Austrian film producer, director and screenwriter who was born in Vienna. His 2003 film '' Yu'' was entered into the 25th Moscow International Film Festival. Novotny and his wife Karin founded the production company Novotny & Novotny. The Romy television award in honor of the German-born and naturalized French actress Romy Schneider, born in Vienna, was created in 1990 by the Austrian newspaper ''Kurier'' – or rather their movie reviewer Rudolf John, who also designed the 30.5 cm gilded trophy. Either employed by a production company or working independently, producers plan and coordinate various aspects of film production, such as selecting the script, coordinating writing, directing, editing, and arranging financing.
