Frank White (footballer)
Frank Robert Henry White (14 April 1911 – 1985) was an English professional footballer who played as a winger. He played nearly 150 First Division games for Birmingham, and also played in the Football League for Preston North End. White was born in Piccadilly, Warwickshire. He was a prolific goalscorer in junior football before signing for Birmingham on the recommendation of Harry Hibbs. He was pacy with good dribbling and shooting skills, and performed better once moved from the left side, where he had initially been employed as the replacement for Ernie Curtis, to his preferred position of outside-right. His last two seasons at Birmingham were disrupted by injury. Over his career at Birmingham he scored at a rate of a goal every three games. In December 1938 he moved to Preston North End; he scored ten league goals in the half-season remaining but then the Second World War put paid to his professional career. Piccadilly, Warwickshire
Piccadilly is a small village in the North Warwickshire district of the county of Warwickshire in England. It is located near to the larger village of Kingsbury (where population details are included), and is four miles south of Tamworth. History Piccadilly was built in 1904 to house miners who worked at the nearby Kingsbury Colliery, and the village was built on land belonging to the mine. It consisted of two rows of three-storey houses along one main street. Piccadilly earned its name from Piccadilly in London, which was the home of Colonel Dibley, one of the village's founders. Dibley asked the miners what they would like to call their new village, but when nobody could think of an appropriate name, he chose Piccadilly. In 1908 a clubhouse was built. Harry Hibbs (footballer)
Henry Edward Hibbs (27 May 1906 – 23 April 1984) was an English footballer who played as a goalkeeper for Birmingham and England in the 1920s and 1930s. His uncle and cousinHubert Pearson and Harold Pearsonwere also both professional players. Playing career Hibbs was born in Wilnecote, Staffordshire and, whilst training as a plumber, played for his local club sides Wilnecote Holy Trinity and Tamworth Castle, who had some torrid seasons in the Birmingham and District Football League (the club conceding a total 164 goals over the 1922 and 1923 seasons). Despite this, Hibbs came to the attention of Birmingham when he was 17 years of age, and impressed so much in trials that he was offered professional forms in May 1924. Ernie Curtis
Ernest Robert Curtis (10 June 1907 – November 1992) was a Welsh professional footballer who played as an outside forward. Born in Cardiff, he joined hometown side Cardiff City in 1925, initially as an amateur before turning professional a year later. He made his senior debut in 1926 and helped the side win both the FA Cup and Welsh Cup in his first season. In the club's 1927 FA Cup victory, he became the youngest player to appear in a final in the competition's history as Cardiff defeated Arsenal, remaining the only team from outside England to win the trophy. Curtis was sold to Birmingham in 1928 where he went on to make more than 160 appearances in all competitions during a five-year spell. He reached a second FA Cup final in 1931 but was on the losing side. He returned to Cardiff in 1933 but became involved in a wage dispute with the club and never featured for the side again. Preston North End
Preston North End Football Club, commonly referred to as Preston, North End or PNE, is a professional football club in Preston, Lancashire, England, who currently play in the EFL Championship, the second tier of the English football league system. Originally a cricket club, Preston has been based at Deepdale since 1875. The club first took up football in 1878 as a winter fitness activity and decided to focus on it in May 1880, when the football club was officially founded. The Football League
The English Football League (EFL) is a league of professional football clubs from England and Wales. Founded in 1888 as the Football League, the league is the oldest such competition in the world. It was the top-level football league in England from its foundation until 1992, when the top 22 clubs split from it to form the Premier League.
