Frank Tate (Emmerdale)
Frank Tate is a fictional character from the British television soap opera ''Emmerdale'', played by Norman Bowler. He made his first appearance on 21 November 1989 and remained a regular for almost eight years, before Bowler opted to quit in 1996, leading to his character's exit the following year. Introduced as the patriarch of the Tate family, who were brought in as part of the show's rebranding in 1989, many of Frank's storylines revolved around his volatile relationship with his wife Kim Tate ( Claire King). During his time in the programme, Frank and Kim divorced and remarried before his death of a heart attack – brought on by her return to the village after being presumed dead – ended their second marriage. Norman Bowler
Norman Clifford Bowler (born 1 August 1932) is an English retired actor, best known for his role as Frank Tate in the ITV soap opera ''Emmerdale''. Early life Norman Clifford Bowler was born on 1 August 1932 in London, England. His father, Clifford Norman Bowler (1899–1993), a watchmaker and jeweller, had a shop at 54 Mill Lane, West Hampstead, London, where he is commemorated by a plaque. Career Bowler was a regular star of the ATV soap series ''Harpers West One'', playing the character of Roger Pike, and played a variety of bit parts and single episode roles on television throughout the 1960s, including an episode of ''Gideon's Way''. ''Emmerdale'' (known as ''Emmerdale Farm'' until 1989) is a British television soap opera that is broadcast on ITV (TV network), ITV. The show is set in Emmerdale (known as Beckindale until 1994), a List of fictional towns and villages, fictional village in the Yorkshire Dales. Paul Opacic (born 1966) is a British actor from Halifax, West Yorkshire, Halifax, England. Steve Marchant is a fictional character from the British soap opera ''Emmerdale'', played by Paul Opacic. He made his first on-screen appearance on 26 March 1996. Opacic originally auditioned for the role of Sean Rossi, before he was cast as Steve for an initial six-episode stint, and was introduced as a former university friend of Rachel Hughes (Glenda McKay). Series producer Kieran Roberts decided to write the character out in 1998, and Opacic made his final appearance on 20 January 1999. John Jacob "Jack" Sugden is a fictional character from the British ITV soap opera ''Emmerdale''. The character was originally played by Andrew Burt from 1972 to 1973 with a brief return in 1976, when the actor left for Italy to write a book. On his return in 1980 he was played by Clive Hornby. Hornby remained in the role until 2008 when he was forced to take a break from Emmerdale due to illness. John Harold Glen (31 December 1941 – 25 October 2020), known professionally as Johnny Leeze, was a British actor of television and film.
