Frank T. Hogg
Frank Trevor "Kootch" Hogg, Jr. (September 1894 – September 18, 1958) was an American football player. He played college football for Princeton University and was a consensus first-team selection to the 1916 College Football All-America Team. Hogg was born in Pennsylvania, raised in Pittsburgh, and attended preparatory school at Phillips-Andover Academy. Hogg played football for the Princeton Tigers football team from 1914 to 1916. While playing at Princeton, he was six feet, two inches tall and weighed 193 pounds. After the 1915 season, he was selected as the captain of the 1916 Princeton Tigers football team. After the 1916 season, he was selected as a consensus first-team Guard (American football), guard on the 1916 College Football All-America Team. He died of a heart attack on September 18, 1958. Guard (American Football)
In gridiron football, a guard (G), otherwise known as an offensive guard (OG), is a player who lines up between the center and the tackles on the offensive line of a football team on the line of scrimmage used primarily for blocking. Right guards (RG) is the term for the guards on the right of the offensive line, while left guards (LG) are on the left side. Guards are to the right or left of the center. The guard's job is to protect the quarterback from the incoming linemen during pass plays, as well as creating openings (holes) for the running backs to head through. Guards are automatically considered ineligible receivers, so they cannot intentionally touch a forward pass, unless it is to recover a fumble or is first touched by a defender or eligible receiver. The 1916 Princeton Tigers football team represented Princeton University in the 1916 college football season. The team finished with a 6–2 record under second-year head coach John H. Rush. Princeton guard Frank T. Hogg was selected as a consensus first-team honoree on the 1916 College Football All-America Team. Three other Princeton players (end Charles Highley, center Alfred Gennert, and a tackle with the surname McLean) were selected as first-team honorees by at least one selector in 1916.
