Major-General Frank Crowther Roberts, (2 June 1891 – 12 January 1982) was a British Army officer and an English recipient of the Victoria Cross (VC), the highest award for gallantry in the face of the enemy that can be awarded to British and Commonwealth forces. Early life and First World War Frank Crowther Roberts was born on 2 June 1891 in Highbury, London, the son of Rev. Frank Roberts, vicar of St John's Church, Southall. He was educated at St Lawrence College, Ramsgate and the Royal Military College, Sandhurst, where he graduated and was subsequently commissioned as a second lieutenant into the Worcestershire Regiment on 4 March 1911. Frank George Roberts (27 February 1912 – 26 June 1989) was an Australian rules footballer who played for St Kilda and Melbourne in the Victorian Football League (VFL). While at St Kilda Roberts played as a forward, kicking 24 goals in his debut season and another 20 the following year. He spent 1935 playing back home at Sandhurst and in 1936 returned to the league with Melbourne. This time he was used as a defender and was on the half back flank in Melbourne's 1939 premiership team. Francis Roy "Frank" Roberts (5 March 1945 – 7 February 2011) was an Indigenous Australian boxer who competed at the 1964 Tokyo Olympics in the welterweight division. 'Honest Frank', as he was known, was the first Indigenous Australian Olympian, and was also the youngest boxer on the Australian boxing team. Sir Frank Kenyon Roberts (27 October 1907 – 7 January 1998) was a British diplomat. He played a key role in British diplomacy in the early years of the Cold War, and in developing Anglo-German relations in the 1960s. Born in Buenos Aires, Argentina, he was educated at Bedales School, Rugby School and Trinity College, Cambridge, where he graduated in 1930 with first-class honours in history. He entered the Foreign Office in 1930, having been first-placed in the entrance examination. His first overseas posting was to Paris, followed by Cairo where he married Celeste Leila Beatrix "Cella" Shoucair (died 1990). Roberts returned to London in 1937 to work in the central department of the Foreign Office, where, as a still relatively junior official, he was involved in much of the diplomacy with Nazi Germany in the lead-up to World War II. Frank Roberts (3 April 1893 – 23 May 1961) was an English professional footballer who played for Manchester City between 1922 and 1928. He could play either as an inside forward or a centre forward. Early life Roberts was born in Sandbach and began his football career playing for Sandbach Villa and Sandbach Ramblers. He was transferred to Crewe Alexandra and in 1914 Bolton Wanderers paid £200 for his services. Roberts guested for West Ham United during World War I, scoring 18 goals in 19 appearances between 1917 and 1919. He also guested for Brentford. Roberts was suspended and transfer-listed by Bolton during the 1922–23 season 'for taking over one of the principal hotels in that town'. He scored 80 goals in 168 appearances for the club. Frank Edwards Roberts (28 February 1913 – 7 June 1992) was an Australian politician. He was Lord Mayor of Brisbane from 1952 to 1955, and was a member of the Queensland Legislative Assembly from 1947 to 1956, representing the electorate of Nundah. As with his predecessor as Mayor, John Beals Chandler, he was simultaneously Lord Mayor and a state MP. He represented Labor from 1947 to 1953 before resigning from the party; he was defeated for re-election as an independent for Lord Mayor in 1955 and as an MP in 1956. Roberts was born in Melbourne, but was raised on a farm in the Mallee region of Victoria, and did not attend school until age nine due to the isolation. Frank Roberts (1882–26 June 1963) was a New Zealand pioneer in building model railways. His models were extremely accurate and reflected the history of the New Zealand railways. Early career Roberts spent his early career working for New Zealand Railways Department (NZR) as a cleaner, fireman and driver before becoming a partner in an electrical firm with his brother Jack. In 1903 Roberts built his first model which was of the WA class steam locomotive using a scale of 1:19. In 1926 Roberts joined the Auckland Model Engineering Society and began building his first garden railway. Using 1¾ inch gauge track, Roberts, his brother George and W. W. Stewart built a large railway (known as the "RSR Railway") over the next 50 years at Roberts home in Epsom, Auckland. Roberts built his models from then on to a scale of 1:24 (G scale).
