Frank Roberts (Australian Footballer)
Frank George Roberts (27 February 1912 – 26 June 1989) was an Australian rules footballer who played for St Kilda and Melbourne in the Victorian Football League (VFL). While at St Kilda Roberts played as a forward, kicking 24 goals in his debut season and another 20 the following year. He spent 1935 playing back home at Sandhurst and in 1936 returned to the league with Melbourne. This time he was used as a defender and was on the half back flank in Melbourne's 1939 premiership team. Long Gully, Victoria
Long Gully is a suburb of the regional city of Bendigo in Victoria, Australia, north-west of the Bendigo central business district. At the 2016 census, Long Gully had a population of 3,383. Long Gully is a working-class suburb of Bendigo, with many older style fibro houses, punctuated by well-established light industry. The suburb is the location of the Bendigo RSL club, in Havilah Road. Long Gully was heavily affected by the Black Saturday bushfires, causing one death. Victorian Football League (1897–1989)
The Australian Football League (AFL) is the only fully professional competition of Australian rules football. Through the AFL Commission, the AFL also serves as the sport's governing body and is responsible for controlling the laws of the game. Originally known as the Victorian Football League (VFL), it was founded in 1896 as a breakaway competition from the Victorian Football Association (VFA), with its inaugural season commencing the following year. The VFL, aiming to become a national competition, began expanding beyond Victoria to other Australian states in the 1980s, and changed its name to the AFL in 1990. The league currently consists of 18 teams spread over five of Australia's six states (Tasmania being the exception). Jack Titus
Jack "Skinny" Titus (9 March 1908 – 19 April 1978) was an Australian rules football player who played in the Victorian Football League (VFL) between 1926 and 1943 for the Richmond Football Club. In the golden era of the 1930s, Titus was one of the great forwards who regularly thrilled the crowds with spectacular goalkicking feats. A lightly built player who seemed at first glance to be too frail for the robust game of Australian football, Titus proved to be one of the great survivors of the game as he set the record for durability (most consecutive games played) that remained unbeaten for nearly a century.
