Frank Hurrey
Frank Steadman Hurrey (23 June 1885 – 19 August 1953) was a former Australian rules footballer who played with Melbourne in the Victorian Football League (VFL). Family One of four children, and the son of Alfred Clarke Hurrey (1855-1931), and Mary Anna Frances Hurrey (1853-1936), née Newman, Frank Steadman Hurrey was born on 23 June 1885. He was engaged to a Miss Vera Agnes Patterson in 1913; however, they did not marry — Miss Patterson married a Donald William McKellar in June 1915. Hurrey remained single for the rest of his life. He died on 19 August 1953. Football Recruited by Melbourne from the Burwood Football Club, and selected at half-back flank, he was one of Melbourne's best players (in a team that only had 17 men, due to Ernest Denton's broken jaw in the first quarter) in his first senior game, the last match of the 1905 season, against Carlton on 9 September 1905. Burwood, Victoria
Burwood is a suburb of Melbourne, Victoria, Australia, 14 km east of Melbourne's Central Business District, located within the Cities of Monash and Whitehorse local government areas. Burwood recorded a population of 15,147 at the 2021 census. History The first settlement in the area, known as Ballyshanassy, was surveyed in 1858. Australian football, also called Australian rules football or Aussie rules, or more simply football or footy, is a contact sport played between two teams of 18 players on an oval field, often a modified cricket ground. Points are scored by kicking the oval ball between the central goal posts (worth six points), or between a central and outer post (worth one point, otherwise known as a "behind"). During general play, players may position themselves anywhere on the field and use any part of their bodies to move the ball. The primary methods are kicking, handballing and running with the ball. Australian Football League
The Australian Football League (AFL) is the only fully professional competition of Australian rules football. Through the AFL Commission, the AFL also serves as the sport's governing body and is responsible for controlling the laws of the game. Originally known as the Victorian Football League (VFL), it was founded in 1896 as a breakaway competition from the Victorian Football Association (VFA), with its inaugural season commencing the following year. Mandurang
Mandurang, is a locality in the City of Greater Bendigo, in the Australian state of Victoria. It grew and developed as a goldfield settlement and logging locality, though today mostly consists of small farms and wineries. Mandurang Primary School was opened in 1877 and closed in 1994. The name is derived from an Aboriginal word meaning black cicada.
