Frank Godwin (film Producer)
Frank Godwin (23 June 1917 – 6 September 2012) was an English film producer, best known for the film ''Woman in a Dressing Gown''. Born to a theatrical family, Godwin initially worked as an accountant and joined Gainsborough Studios in 1943. In 1956, Godwin established a film production company with film director J. Lee Thompson and writer Ted Willis. They made two films for Associated British Picture Corporation: the award-winning ''Woman in a Dressing Gown'' (1957) and '' No Trees in the Street'' (1959). Godwin was a producer for films such as ''Don't Bother to Knock'' (1961) and ''Demons of the Mind'' (1972). His final film was ''Terry on the Fence'' (1985) which he also wrote and directed. Woman In A Dressing Gown
''Woman in a Dressing Gown'' is a 1957 British drama film directed by J. Lee Thompson and starring Yvonne Mitchell, Anthony Quayle, Sylvia Syms, and Carole Lesley. The film won four awards at the 7th Berlin International Film Festival including the first ever FIPRESCI Prize and a special mention for "Best Foreign Film". Mitchell won the Silver Bear for Best Actress. The film also won the 1958 Golden Globe Award for Best English-Language Foreign Film. The screenplay was written by Ted Willis and the cinematographer was Gilbert Taylor. The producer was Frank Godwin. The film concerns a man who is having an extramarital affair and considers divorce, and his wife's reaction to the affair. Gainsborough Studios
Gainsborough Pictures was a British film studio based on the south bank of the Regent's Canal, in Poole Street, Hoxton in the former Metropolitan Borough of Shoreditch, north London. Gainsborough Studios was active between 1924 and 1951. The company was initially based at Islington Studios, which were built as a power station for the Great Northern & City Railway and later converted to studios. Other films were made at Lime Grove and Pinewood Studios. The former Islington studio was converted to flats in 2004 and a London Borough of Hackney historical plaque is attached to the building. Edward Henry Willis, Baron Willis (13 January 1914 – 22 December 1992) was an English playwright, novelist and screenwriter who was also politically active in support of the Labour Party. In 1941 he became the General Secretary of the Young Communist League, the youth branch of the Communist Party of Great Britain. Early life and War service Born in Tottenham, Middlesex, Willis described when he was leaving school at the age of fourteen: "I had a two-second 'career interview' with my Headmaster.
