Francisco Torres (Jesuit)
Francisco Torres known as Turrianus (c. 1509 – 21 November 1584), was a Spanish Jesuit Hellenist and polemicist. He was born in Herrera, Palencia, the nephew of Dr. Torres, Bishop of the Canaries. He studied at Salamanca and lived in Rome with Cardinal Giovanni Salviati and Seripando. In 1562 Pope Pius IV sent him to the Council of Trent, and on 8 January, 1567, he became a Jesuit. He was professor at the Roman College, took part in the revision of the Sixtine Vulgate, and had Hosius and Baronius for literary associates. His contemporaries called him ''helluo librorum'' (glutton of books) for the rapidity with which he examined the principal libraries. In the last several years of his life, Turrianus had an ongoing battle of books with the French Protestant Antoine de la Roche Chandieu. He remained in Rome, where he died. Francisco Torres Sánchez de Roa (1594 – 14 July 1651) was a Roman Catholic prelate who served as Bishop of Lugo (1650–1651). ''(in Latin)'' Biography Francisco Torres Sánchez de Roa was born in Becerril de Campos, Spain in 1594. On 24 January 1650, he was appointed during the papacy of Pope Innocent X as Bishop of Lugo. Francisco Torres Oliver
Francisco Torres Oliver (born Villajoyosa, Alicante (Spain), June 21, 1935) is one of the most important Spanish translators. He studied "Filosofía y letras", in the branch of Philosophy, at the Universidad Complutense, Madrid. He specializes in English fantastic literature. Along with the scholar Rafael Llopis, he is one of the main proponents of macabre and mystery literature in Spain. Regarding the macabre, he has stated that "it is the young people who have greater curiosity". Torres Oliver has also translated numerous texts of history, philosophy, and anthropology into Spanish. He has translated, among others, the following authors: Charles Dickens, D. H. Lawrence, Daniel Defoe, H. P. Lovecraft, James Hogg, Jane Austen, Lewis Carroll, Thomas Hardy, Thomas Malory, Arthur Machen, M. R. James and Vladimir Nabokov. He has also translated some French works. Francisco Torres (Mexican Footballer)
Francisco Javier Torres Zamora (born 12 May 1983) is a Mexican former footballer who last played for Lobos BUAP of Liga MX. Torres was born in León, Guanajuato. He made his debut against La Piedad, in a semifinal match in which he played three minutes. Torres got his first start against Pachuca in the first game of the Clausura 2003. In his third game as a professional soccer player, Torres scored a spectacular goal against Chivas which tied the game 1–1. The following season, Leo Beenhakker became the new coach of Club América and he relegated Torres. He did not play a single minute. Clausura 2004 was not much better as Torres only made 2 appearances for a total of 33 minutes. Apertura 2004 brought a new hope for Torres. Leo Beenhakker had been sacked and Oscar Ruggeri became the new coach. Torres immediately began playing and scored the winning goal in the first game of the season against Dorados de Sinaloa.
