Francisco Stromp
Francisco Stromp was an association football player and coach, founding member and Club official of the Sporting Clube de Portugal. History Francisco Stromp was born on 21 May 1892 in Largo do Intendente in Lisbon, and was the first great symbol of Sporting. At the age of three, Francisco fell ill and his father's friends and family doctors advised his family to leave Lisbon because the boy needed free air. They moved to Lumiar, which was out of town at the time. It was there that he met José Alvalade with whom he founded Sporting Clube de Portugal in 1906, being one of the dissidents of the Campo Grande Football Club. In 1908, Francisco Stromp was 16 years old when he made his debut with Sporting Clube de Portugal in 1923/24. Visconde De Alvalade
His Lordship Alfredo Augusto das Neves Holtreman, Viscount of Alvalade, was a Portuguese lawyer, land tenant, businessman and philanthropist. He was the first president of Sporting CP, from 1906 to 1910, sports club founded in 1906 by his grandson José Alvalade through the Viscount's donation of money and land. History Alfredo Holtreman graduated from the University of Coimbra Law School being awarded a Bachelor of Law degree and settled in Lisbon since one of the family's farms was in Lumiar, becoming one of the most prestigious lawyers in the Portuguese capital along the way. Sporting Clube de Portugal, founded Sporting Club de Portugal (), otherwise referred to as Sporting CP, often known abroad as Sporting Lisbon , is a Portuguese professional sports club based in Lisbon. It is best known for the professional football team playing in the Primeira Liga, the top flight of Portuguese football. Founded on 1 July 1906, Sporting is one of the " Big Three" clubs in Portugal that have never been relegated from Primeira Liga, along with rivals Benfica and Porto. The 1922–23 Campeonato de Portugal was the second edition of Campeonato de Portugal. It was contested by 6 clubs, winners of regional championships, and took place from 3 to 24 June 1923. FC Porto, the defending champions, were eliminated by Sporting CP in the semi-finals. The winners were Sporting CP, who defeated Académica by 3–0 in the final. Format The winners of six regional championships were qualified to this competition: Algarve FA's, Braga FA's, Coimbra FA's, Lisbon FA's, Madeira FA's and Porto FA's. This represents an increase in the number of clubs compared to the previous season, which had only the winners of Lisbon FA and Porto FA. Estádio José Alvalade
Estádio José Alvalade is a football stadium in Lisbon, Portugal, home of Sporting Clube de Portugal. It was built adjacent to the site of the older stadium. The stadium is named after José Alvalade (1885–1918), the founder and first club member of Sporting CP in the early twentieth century. Origin The previous José Alvalade Stadium was opened on 10 June 1956. Plans by Sporting CP to modernize the club in the late 1990s coincided with the decision to award Portugal the right to host UEFA Euro 2004, and the decision was made to build a new stadium, with construction beginning on 15 January 2001.
