Francis B. De Witt
Francis Byron De Witt (March 11, 1849 – March 21, 1929) was a United States House of Representatives, U.S. Representative from Ohio for one term from 1895 to 1897. Biography Born in Jackson County, Indiana, De Witt moved with his parents in 1854 to a farm in Delaware County, Ohio. During the American Civil War, Civil War enlisted in the 46th Ohio Infantry, Forty-sixth Regiment, Ohio Volunteer Infantry, at the age of twelve. Mustered out for temporary disability and reenlisted in 1862 in the 121st Ohio Infantry, One Hundred and Twenty-first Regiment, Ohio Volunteer Infantry, and served until the close of the war. Prisoner of war in Salisbury, Danville, and Libby Prisons. He attended the common schools and high school in Galena, Ohio, National Normal University, National Normal School, Lebanon, Ohio, and Ohio Wesleyan University, Delaware, Ohio. History Galena was originally called Zoar, and under the latter name was platted in 1816. A post office called Galena has been in operation since 1834. Ohio's 5th congressional district is in northwestern and north central Ohio and borders Michigan and Indiana. The district is currently represented by Republican Bob Latta. Paulding County is a county located in the U.S. state of Ohio. As of the 2020 census, the population was about 18,806. Its county seat is Paulding. The county was created in 1820 and later organized in 1839. It is named for John Paulding, one of the captors of Major John André in the American Revolutionary War. Arenac County ( ) is a county located in the U.S. state of Michigan. As of the 2020 Census, the population was 15,002. The county seat is Standish. History Arenac County was organized in 1883. The name ''Arenac'', coined by Henry Rowe Schoolcraft, US Indian Agent and ethnologist, is a derivation of the Latin ''arena'' and the Native American ''ac''. The combined words mean “A sandy place for a good footing.” The county includes some off-reservation trust lands held by the federal government for the federally recognized Saginaw Chippewa Tribal Nation, which is based in Isabella County.
