Francesco Baccini (born 4 October 1960) is an Italian singer-songwriter. Background Born in Genoa, Baccini made his official debut in 1988 with the stage name Espressione Musica, with "Mamma dammi i soldi", the closing theme song of the 38th edition of the Sanremo Music Festival. Put under contract by Caterina Caselli, in 1989 he released his first album, ''Cartoons'', which was both a critical and commercial success. In 1990 he won the Festivalbar competition and peaked the Italian hit parade with the song "Sotto questo sole", recorded together with the band Ladri di biciclette. In 1997 he entered the competition at the Sanremo Music Festival, ranking eleventh with the song "Senza tu". The Sanremo Music Festival 1988 was the 38th annual Sanremo Music Festival, held at the Teatro Ariston in Sanremo, province of Imperia, between 24 and 27 February 1988 and broadcast by Rai 1. Caterina Caselli
Caterina Caselli (born 10 April 1946) is an Italian record producer, music executive, singer and bass player. Biography Caselli was born in Modena but grew up in Sassuolo. She started her music career by playing bass in local clubs. In 1966 she debuted in the Sanremo Festival with " Nessuno mi può giudicare", a song discarded by Adriano Celentano, scoring a notable success. It sold over one million copies, and was awarded a gold disc. Caselli also had considerable success with an Italian cover of the David McWilliams song "Days of Pearly Spencer" called "Il volto della vita". The Festivalbar was an Italian singing competition that took place in the most important Italian squares during summer, such as the Piazza del Duomo, Catania or Piazza Bra, Verona. The first edition took place in 1964 and was broadcast by RAI. The competition was held throughout the summer and the final round always took place at the Arena in Verona after 3-4 events in various cities of Italy. History Originally, the Festivalbar was a competition made with data from jukeboxes in Italian bars, so the competition was a one evening event transmitted by RAI. Ladri di Biciclette is an Italian funky-R&B band, mainly successful between late 1980s and early 1990s. Career The group formed in 1984 in Carpi by some students of the Verona Conservatory as a revivalist band, inspired by The Blues Brothers.
