Francescantonio Coratoli
Francesco Antonio Coratoli (13 December 1671 – 10 June 1722) was an Italian painter of the late-Baroque or Rococo periods. Born in Monteleone di Puglia Monteleone di Puglia ( Irpinian: ) is a hill town and ''comune'' of the province of Foggia in the Apulia region of south-eastern Italy. Its territory borders the municipalities of Accadia, Anzano di Puglia, Ariano Irpino ( AV), Panni, San Soss ..., Coratoli trained under a painter by the name of Zoda. He travelled to Rome to study painting. His works include frescoes in the Basilica di San Leone Luca, Santa Maria di Gesù, a ''Coronation of the Virgin'' for the church of Santa Maria degli Angeli, and a ''Marriage of St. Joseph'' for il Gesù. He died in Monteleone. The Baroque (, ; ) is a style of architecture, music, dance, painting, sculpture, poetry, and other arts that flourished in Europe from the early 17th century until the 1750s. Rococo (, also ), less commonly Roccoco or Late Baroque, is an exceptionally ornamental and theatrical style of architecture, art and decoration which combines asymmetry, scrolling curves, gilding, white and pastel colours, sculpted moulding, and ''trompe-l'œil'' frescoes to create surprise and the illusion of motion and drama. It is often described as the final expression of the Baroque movement. The Rococo style began in France in the 1730s as a reaction against the more formal and geometric Louis XIV style. Monteleone di Puglia ( Irpinian: ) is a hill town and ''comune'' of the province of Foggia in the Apulia region of south-eastern Italy.
