Fox River (Missouri)
Fox River is a stream in Davis, and Van Buren counties of Iowa, and Clark County of Missouri. It is a tributary of the Mississippi River. The stream headwaters are at near Drakesville and Bloomfield, Iowa. It crosses the Iowa-Missouri border near Mt Sterling, and its confluence with the Mississippi is about six miles south of the confluence of the Des Moines River, near Alexandria at . Fox River was named after the Fox Indians. At Wayland, Missouri, the river has an average discharge of 283 cubic feet per second. Wayland is a city in Clark County, Missouri, United States. As of the 2020 census, its population was 408. It is part of the Fort Madison– Keokuk, IA-MO Micropolitan Statistical Area. Fox Indians
The Meskwaki (sometimes spelled Mesquaki), also known by the European exonyms Fox Indians or the Fox, are a Native American people. They have been closely linked to the Sauk people of the same language family. In the Meskwaki language, the Meskwaki call themselves ', which means "the Red-Earths", related to their creation story. Historically their homelands were in the Great Lakes region. The tribe coalesced in the St. Lawrence River Valley in present-day Ontario, Canada.
