Foteino, Arta
Foteino ( el, Φωτεινό []) is a village (community) in the municipal unit of Kompoti in the Arta (regional unit), regional unit of Arta, Greece. In 2011 its population was 178. History The old name of the village, Hósiana ( el, Χώσιανα), appears for the first time in 1696, in a historic document in which the villages of Arta asked the Venetian Republic for protection from pirates. In 1899, a new church was built by destroying a small old one, dating to the early 12th century The village was constituted as a separate commune with the 186/10.08.1947 government gazette (ΦΕΚ). Until then it was part of the commune of Ano-Petra. With ΦΕΚ 195/23.07.1953, its name changed from Hosiana to Fotino,Kaselouris, Lampros Christos. 1980. ''Historic And Folklore of Arta''. Athens. Arta ( el, Περιφερειακή ενότητα Άρτας) is one of the regional units of Greece. It is part of the Epirus region. Its capital is the town of Arta. Geography The regional unit of Arta is located north of the Ambracian Gulf. The main mountain ranges are the Athamanika in the northeast, the Pindus in the east, and Valtou in the southeast. Only one mountain road links Arta with the Pineios valley and Thessaly. There are low-lying agricultural plains in the west. Arta borders on the regional units of Preveza in the west, Ioannina to the north, Trikala in the east, Karditsa to the east and Aetolia-Acarnania to the south. Kompóti ( el, Κομπότι, ) is a village and a former municipality in the Arta (regional unit), Arta regional unit, Epirus (region), Epirus, Greece. Since the 2011 local government reform it is part of the municipality Nikolaos Skoufas (municipality), Nikolaos Skoufas, of which it is a municipal unit. The municipal unit has an area of 38.486 km2. In 2011 its population was 1,544 for the town, 11650 for the community and 2,542 for the municipal unit. The Greek National Road 5/European route E55, E55 connects Kompoti with Messolonghi to the south and Arta, Greece, Arta and Ioannina to the north. Kompoti is located north of Amfilochia and Agrinio, east-northeast of Preveza and southeast of Arta, Greece, Arta. The Ambracian Gulf is to the south. Kompoti became part of Greece in 1881. Sellades
Sellades ( el, Σελλάδες) is a village in the municipal unit of Kompoti in the regional unit of Arta, Greece. In 2011 its population was 606 for the town and 714 for the community (including the village Alonia). Sellades is 1 km northwest of Kompoti and 10 km southeast of Arta. The Greek National Road 5/E951 (Antirrio - Agrinio - Arta - Ioannina) passes southwest of the village. Population History The origin of the name "Sellades" is disputed. Menidi, Aetolia-Acarnania
Menidi (Greek: Μενίδι) is a former municipality in Aetolia-Acarnania, West Greece, Greece. Since the 2011 local government reform it is part of the municipality Amfilochia, of which it is a municipal unit. The municipal unit has an area of 107.730 km2. It is located by the Ambracian Gulf. Ambracian Gulf
The Ambracian Gulf, also known as the Gulf of Arta or the Gulf of Actium, and in some official documents as the Amvrakikos Gulf ( el, Αμβρακικός κόλπος, translit=Amvrakikos kolpos), is a gulf of the Ionian Sea in northwestern Greece. Arachthos River
The Arachthos ( el, Άραχθος) is a river in eastern Epirus, Greece. Its source is in the Pindus mountains, near the town Metsovo ( Ioannina regional unit). It is long, and its drainage area is . Its upper course is known as '' Metsovitikos''. From its confluence with the Dipotamos near the village of Batza it is called Arachthos. It flows towards the south, passing between the Athamanika and the Xerovouni mountains. In this place meets the Plaka Bridge, the largest one-arch stone bridge in Greece. It enters the large Pournari Reservoir, in the Arta regional unit, which is about 18 km² and prevents flooding of the city of Arta and also supplies water to most of Epirus.
