Sundown Recorders was a recording studio located in Edmonton, Canada, owned by Canadian recording artist and producer Wes Dakus, that existed from 1972 to 1987. A number of notable Canadian and American artists recorded at the studio, including Hoyt Axton, One Horse Blue, Bobby Curtola, Gary Fjellgaard and Fosterchild. History Previously known as Park Lane Studios, Sundown Recorders was opened in 1972 by Wes Dakus, an Edmonton-based musician who had achieved national success in the 1960s as Wes Dakus & The Rebels, one of Canada's preeminent instrumental groups. One Horse Blue
One Horse Blue was a Canadian country rock music group that existed from 1975 to 1981 and, as reconstituted, from 1988 to 1995, releasing five albums. History The band first formed as Pickens in 1975 in Edmonton, Alberta, with members Winston Quelch (guitar), Bob Burghardt (guitar), bassist Randy Lloyd and drummer Ron (Rocko) Vaugeois. In 1977, the band asked Ian Oscar of Stash to join on vocals. When Oscar joined, the band changed their name to One Horse Blue after the 1974 Poco song from the album ''Cantamos''. Guitarist Michael Shellard came on board shortly after, and the band began touring across Canada. In 1978 they linked up again with producer Wes Dakus who had assisted on an earlier Pickens single; Dakus took the band into Sundown Recorders to cut their first album, ''One Horse Blue'' on Vera Cruz Records, with the lead single "Deliver Me". Ralph Gallant (October 15, 1943 − August 24, 1992), better known by the stage name Larrie Londin, was an American drummer and session musician. According to journalist James Byron Fox, "If not the best known, Larrie is one of the most listened to drummers in the world. James Edwin Foster (born August 28, 1950) is a Canadian singer, songwriter, guitarist, and harmonica player. Biography Born in Victoria, British Columbia, Foster is best known for his Canadian singles "X-Ray Eyes" and his work with his band, Fosterchild, which existed from 1976 to 1980. Aaron Pritchett (born August 2, 1970) is a Canadian country music singer. He has one #1 hit on the ''Billboard'' Canada Country chart with " Better When I Do". Biography Pritchett got his start as a DJ at Rooster's Country Cabaret bar in Pitt Meadows, BC, and played in a house band performing cover tunes. He recorded his first album in 1996 titled ''Young in Love''. In 2001, after years of playing clubs in BC and Alberta, Pritchett entered a singing contest called "Project Discovery" sponsored by CMT and won a professional music video directed by internationally acclaimed director, Steven Goldmann as well as $10,000 cash. Mike Reno
Mike Reno (born Joseph Michael Rynoski; born January 8, 1955) is a Canadian musician, singer and the lead singer of the rock band Loverboy. He is reported to have taught himself how to play guitar. He fronted other bands, including Moxy, before helping form Loverboy. Reno also sang for the Canadian band Hammersmith in 1976. Life and career While still in school in the early 1970s, Reno joined a cover band called Morning Glory, in which he played the drums and eventually found his way to the cover band Synergy. Later, Reno moved on to a band called Spunk with guitarist Jack Stoltz. After graduating from Penticton Secondary School, Reno briefly joined the band Moxy for a single album, '' Under the Lights'', released in 1978.
