Eugene Noble Foss (September 24, 1858 – September 13, 1939) was an American politician and manufacturer from Massachusetts. He was a member of the United States House of Representatives and served as a three-term governor of Massachusetts. Ingunn Foss (born 7 February 1960) is a Norwegian politician for the Conservative Party. She is Member of Parliament (Stortinget) for Vest-Agder County since 2013. She served as a deputy representative to the Norwegian Parliament from Vest-Agder during the term 2005–2009. On the local level she was the mayor of Lyngdal is a municipality in Agder county, Norway. Hugh Foss (bishop)
Hugh James Foss (25 June 1848 – 24 March 1932) was an Anglican bishop, the second Bishop of Osaka. Hugh James Foss was born into a legal family: his father was Edward Foss, author of ''The Judges of England''.“Who was Who” 1897-1990 London, A & C Black, 1991 He was educated at Marlborough College and Christ's College, Cambridge. Ordained in 1873, he spent a three-year curacy in Liverpool before emigrating to Kobe three years later. Hugh Rose Foss (13 May 1902 – 23 December 1971) was a British cryptanalyst. At Bletchley Park during World War II he made significant contributions both to the breaking of the German Enigma code and headed the section tasked with breaking Japanese Naval codes. Early life and education Foss was born in Kobe, Japan, one of five children of the Rt Revd Hugh Foss, Bishop of Osaka and his wife Janet Ovans. As a child of a missionary family stationed in Japan he developed fluency in Japanese from an early age. Foss was later educated at Marlborough College and graduated from Christ's College, Cambridge in 1924. Henry O. Foss (September 5, 1891 – April 1986) was an elected official, businessman and civic leader in Tacoma, Washington. It is after his mother that the famed ''Tugboat Annie'' series was written. Henry Foss High School in Tacoma, Washington is named after him. Biography Foss was one of four children born to Norwegian immigrant parents, Andrew and Thea Foss, first owners and operators of Foss Launch and Tug Company. He graduated from Tacoma (now Stadium) High School in 1911 and went to work for his parents in the family business. He graduated from Stanford University in 1916. Henrich Herman Mejer Foss (17 September 1790 – 21 September 1853) was a Norwegian military officer and elected official. Biography He was born in Bergen, Norway. He was the son of Jacob Finne Foss (1763-1822) and Margrethe Meyer (born 1763). He completed artillery exams in Copenhagen during 1811. He participated in the Gunboat War as artillery officer. In 1830 he became the military officer of charge in Christiania (now Oslo). In 1843 he became Major and later Colonel Lieutenant and Battalion Chief. Foss is most noted for his Norwegian language novel, ''Husmands-gutte'' (1885) which was translated into English as ''The Cotter's Son. A story from Sigdal''.
