Forrester Osei
Forrester Osei (born 12 September 1989) is a Ghanaian weightlifter, competing in the 94 kg category and representing Ghana at international competitions. He competed at 2016 Commonwealth Weightlifting Championships and won gold in his weight division. He competed at World Weightlifting Championships in 2015, 2017, 2019, and 2021. He also competed at the 2019 African Games. He is an executive board member of the International Weightlifting Federation. Olympic Weightlifting
Olympic weightlifting, or Olympic-style weightlifting (officially named Weightlifting), is a sport in which athletes compete in lifting a barbell loaded with weight plates from the ground to overhead, with each athlete trying to successfully lift the heaviest weights. Athletes compete in two specific ways of lifting the barbell overhead: these are the snatch and the clean and jerk. The ''snatch'' is a wide-grip lift, in which the weighted barbell is lifted overhead in one motion. The ''clean and jerk'' is a combination lift, in which the weight is first taken from the ground to the front of the shoulders (the clean), and then from the shoulders to overhead (the jerk). The clean and press, wherein a clean was followed by an overhead press, was formerly also a competition lift, but was discontinued due to difficulties in judging proper form. 2016 Commonwealth Weightlifting Championships
The 2016 Commonwealth Weightlifting Championships were held at the SPICE Arena in Bayan Baru, Penang, Malaysia from 25 to 29 October 2016. The event was limited to seniors and juniors. At the same venue, youth weightlifters instead contested the preceding World Youth Weightlifting Championships, where they were awarded Commonwealth medals (if desired, their results also featured in the subsequent junior/senior standings). International Weightlifting Federation
The International Weightlifting Federation (IWF), headquartered in Lausanne, is the international governing body for the sport of Olympic weightlifting. The IWF was founded in 1905, and has 192 Member Federations. The IWF President is Mohammed Hasan Jalood of Iraq. Originally called the Fédération Haltérophile International (FHI), it changed its name to IWF between the 1972 and 1976 Summer Olympics. Controversies Doping in weightlifting was highlighted during the 2020 Olympic Games due to historic problems within the sport. Due to corruption, and the failure to establish significant reforms of the International Weightlifting Federation, citing the continued endemic corruption and widespread doping issues, the IOC is threatening to drop weightlifting entirely from the Olympics unless substantial reforms are made to the sport.
