Forever Young (Japanese: , foaled February 24, 2021) is a Japanese thoroughbred racehorse, who won his maiden race, the JBC Nisai Yushun and the Zen-Nippon Nisai Yushun in 2023, as well as the Saudi Derby and the UAE Derby in 2024, and remained undefeated until a third-place three-horse photo finish at the 150th Kentucky Derby, losing to Mystik Dan and Sierra Leone by a nose. Background Forever Young was bred at Northern Farm (stud), Northern Farm stud in Hokkaido, Japan, and was foaled on February 24, 2021. Real Steel ( ja, リアルスティール, link=no, foaled 1 March 2012) is a Japanese Thoroughbred racehorse and sire. After winning his only race as a juvenile in 2014 he developed into a top-class performer in the following year when he won the Tokino Minoru Kinen and finished second in the Spring Stakes, Satsuki Sho St Lite Kinen and Kikuka Sho as well as running fourth in the Japanese Derby. He reached his peak as a four-year-old in 2016 when he won the Dubai Turf and ran second in the Tenno Sho. The Santa Ynez Stakes is a Grade II American thoroughbred horse race for three-year-old fillies over a distance of seven furlongs on the dirt track held annually in early January at Santa Anita Park in Arcadia, California, USA. Graded Stakes Race
A graded stakes race is a thoroughbred horse race in the United States that meets the criteria of the American Graded Stakes Committee of the Thoroughbred Owners and Breeders Association (TOBA). A specific grade level (I, II, III or listed) is then assigned to the race, based on statistical analysis of the quality of the field in previous years, provided the race meets the minimum purse criteria for the grade in question. In Canada, a similar grading system is maintained by the Jockey Club of Canada. Graded stakes races are similar to Group races in Europe but the grading is more dynamic in North America. The Dubai Turf, known as Dubai Duty Free 1996 to 2014. is a Group 1 flat horse race in the United Arab Emirates for four-year-old and above thoroughbreds run over a distance of 1,800 metres (1 mile 1 furlong) on the turf at Meydan Racecourse in Dubai during the Dubai World Cup Night in March. It was first run in 1996 on dirt, with a distance of 2,000 metres (1 mile 2 furlongs). It was transferred to turf, and a distance of 1,777 metres, in 2000. The race attained Group 1 status in 2002. Background Sierra Leone is a dark bay or brown colt who was bred in Kentucky by Debby Oxley.
