Forestburgh
Forestburgh is a town in Sullivan County, New York, United States. The population was 808 at the 2020 census. It is where the Neversink River enters the Neversink Gorge and flows over High Falls. The ZIP code of Forestburgh, New York is 12777. The Town of Forestburgh is in the south-central part of the county. History The town was formed from parts of the Towns of Mamakating and Thompson in 1837. Forestburgh's main industries in its early years were tanning, quarrying and lumbering. The mountains on either side of Bushkill Creek contained quarries of flagging, curbing and building stone (also known as bluestone). The largest of these was Paradise Quarry in Oakland Valley. Stone from this quarry was used to construct the Episcopal Church in Monticello. Many of the old sidewalks in New York City were said to have come from this area. Forestburgh Town Hall
Forestburgh Town Hall is a historic town hall located at Forestburgh in Sullivan County, New York. It was built in 1929 and is a small, rectangular wood-frame building sheathed in novelty wood siding. The building measures 30 feet long and 20 feet wide. It has a gable roof and sits on a concrete foundation. Also located on the property is a small privy built in 1924. The town hall is almost an exact replica of the previous town hall building that stood in the same spot from 1895 until it burned in 1928. It remains virtually unchanged since its construction. Sullivan County, New York
Sullivan County is a county in the U.S. state of New York. As of the 2020 census, the population was 78,624. The county seat is Monticello. The county's name honors Major General John Sullivan, who was labeled at the time as a hero in the American Revolutionary War in part due to his successful campaign against the Iroquois (see Sullivan Expedition). The county was the site of hundreds of Borscht Belt hotels and resorts, which had their heyday from the 1920s through the 1970s. Mamakating is a town in the southeastern section of Sullivan County, New York, United States. The population was 12,655 at the 2020 census. History Johanis Hardenburgh, a resident of Kingston, Ulster County, had purchased a large tract of land known as the Hardenburgh Patent in 1706. This land and another patent known as the Minisink Patent were what is now most of Orange and Sullivan Counties. Neversink Gorge
The Neversink Gorge is located in the town of Forestburgh, New York, USA, and is one of the more outstanding features of the Neversink River. The Köppen climate classification is one of the most widely used climate classification systems.
