Forest City Community School District is a rural public school district headquartered in Forest City, Iowa. The district is located in sections of Hancock, Winnebago, Worth and Cerro Gordo counties. It serves Forest City, Crystal Lake, Fertile, Leland, Woden, and the surrounding rural areas. On July 1, 2013, the Woden–Crystal Lake Community School District consolidated into the Forest City district. Forest City, Iowa
Forest City is a city in Hancock and Winnebago counties in the U.S. state of Iowa, and the county seat of Winnebago County. The population was 4,285 in the 2020 census, a decline from the 4,362 population in 2000. History Forest City was officially founded in 1855. Formerly known as “Puckerbrush”, Robert Clark the official founder/surveyor deemed it “Forest City” because it was cut right out of the trees. It was then platted in 1856, and later incorporated on June 14, 1878. The population started to grow when immigrants from Sweden and Norway settled in the Forest City because of the similar topography. Its growth continued when city leaders convinced Minneapolis and St. Louis Railroad to come to Forest City. Although the Civil War stunted the city’s growth, many immigrants found the city attractive. Woden–Crystal Lake Community School District (W-CL) was a school district headquartered in Crystal Lake, Iowa. It served Crystal Lake and Woden. History Circa 1992 the Woden–Crystal Lake district began sharing administrative services and employees with the Forest City Community School District. For much of its history, the Titonka Consolidated School District sent its students to the Woden–Crystal Lake–Titonka High School for senior high school, while Titonka operated the joint junior high school, and both districts had their respective elementary schools, with Woden–Crystal Lake's elementary being in Woden. As a result of the agreement, schools were branded "Woden–Crystal Lake–Titonka Community School District" even though the two districts remained legally separate.
