The sport of football, the most popular sport in Senegal, in the country of Senegal is run by the Senegalese Football Federation. The association administers the national football team, as well as the Premier League. Some of the most notable players from the country include Roger Mendy, Jules Bocandé, Tony Sylva, Henri Camara, El Hadji Diouf, Sadio Mané and Kalidou Koulibaly. League system The Senegalese league system is divided into two leagues: Ligue 1 to Ligue 2, equivalent to the leagues in France and has been professional since 2007. The lower three are divided into Nationale 1 and 2 which are amateur levels. Until 2008, they were called Division 1, 2, 3 and 4. Senegal also feature cup competitions, a major cup being the Senegal FA Cup, which was founded in the 1980s. The Senegalese Football Federation (french: Fédération Sénégalaise de Football; FSF) is the governing body of football in Senegal. It is based in the capital of Senegal, Dakar, and was founded in 1960. The FSF aided in the development of football in Senegal, specifically for its professional and amateur leagues, youth and women's football and academies. Henri Camara
Henri Camara (born 10 May 1977) is a Senegalese former professional footballer who played as a striker. Starting his career in the late 1990s, he went on to play professionally in France, Switzerland, Scotland, England, and Greece before retiring in 2018. A full international between 1999 and 2008, he won 99 caps for the Senegal national team and scored 29 goals. He represented his nation at the 2002 FIFA World Cup, where he scored two goals as Senegal reached the quarter-finals. Club career Early career Camara was born in Dakar to a Guinean father and a Senegalese mother. He began his career in France with Racing Club de Strasbourg Alsace (1998–1999), before playing for Swiss clubs Neuchâtel Xamax (1999–2000), and Grasshopper Club Zürich, where he won the Swiss Championship in 2001. Stade Demba Diop
Stade Demba Diop is a multi-use stadium in greater Dakar, Senegal. It is situated on ''Boulevard Président Habib Bourguiba'' in Sicap-Liberté, an urban arrondissement of Dakar. Several football clubs use this stadium for their home games. History Built in 1963, the stadium was later named after Demba Diop, former mayor of M'bour and Minister of Youth and Sport under President Léopold Sédar Senghor. Diop was assassinated on 3 February 1967. In 2017, eight people died after a wall at the Stade Demba Diop collapsed during a match between Stade de Mbour and US Ouakam. Facilities The stadium holds 30,000 people and its current surface is synthetic turf. Events The stadium is currently used mostly for football matches and serves as a home ground of ASC Diaraf, AS Douanes, US Ouakam and ASC Xam Xam. AS Douanes (Senegal)
AS Douanes is a Senegalese professional football club based in Dakar. The current chairman as of 2016 is Alassane Ndione. Douanes also has the third most number of major honours won in Senegal numbering 14, they 6 championship and cup titles, a super cup and a league cup. The club plays at Stade Demba Diop, sometimes they play at Stade Alassane Djigo. History The club was founded in 1980. Not long after the foundation, as they were only three tiers at the time, the club went to Division 1 in 1984 and participated there. Diambars FC de Saly is a football academy in Saly, Senegal, which plays in the Senegalese National League 1. It's also a part of Diambars, a non-profit organisation certified by UNESCO. History Diambars was founded in 2003 by former footballer Patrick Vieira and other players. Diambars started at the regional championships, after being the best in regional divisions, Diambars elevated to a professional status in 2009. The Senegalese Super Cup is a Senegalese football competition, held as a game between the reigning champions of the Senegalese Premier League (Ligue 1) and the Senegalese Cup, it challenged a winner of the Senegalese League Cup, it once had a winner of Nationale 1 from 2009 to 2015. Up to 2015, it was known as the Senegal Assemblée Nationale Cup The first edition was held in 1978.
