Aldo Nova (born Aldo Caporuscio on November 13, 1956) is a Canadian guitarist, keyboardist, vocalist, and producer. He initially gained fame and popularity with the release of his 1982 debut album ''Aldo Nova'' which peaked to ''Billboard'''s number 8 position, and its accompanying single, "Fantasy", which peaked to number 23 on the US '' Billboard'' Hot 100 and boosted sales for its parent album. "Fantasy" is Nova's highest-charting signature song often being recognized as a classic. He was born in Montreal, Quebec, Canada. ''Aldo Nova'' is the debut album by Canadian musician Aldo Nova, released in 1982. It reached number 8 on the ''Billboard'' 200 and was certified Gold by the RIAA on May 14, 1982, Platinum on February 14, 1989, and Double Platinum on December 5, 1994. Both of the singles released from the album charted on the Hot 100, "Foolin' Yourself" at No. 65 and "Fantasy" at No. 23. Due to the fact that he only had one top 40 hit in America, Aldo Nova is typically categorized as a one-hit wonder; for example, "Fantasy" was listed at No. 77 on VH1's list of the 100 greatest '80s one-hit wonders. Portrait Records was a sister label of Epic Records and later of Columbia Records. Notable artists Cyndi Lauper and Sade signed with Portrait, but their contracts were absorbed by Epic after that incarnation of the label was shuttered. History & Overview Portrait began in 1976 as a sister label of Epic; its initial signings were Joan Baez, Burton Cummings, and the McCrarys. Cummings' "Stand Tall" was the lead-off single. "Fantasy" is the debut single by Canadian rock musician Aldo Nova and is his most popular work to date. Released on his eponymous debut album in 1982. VH1 listed it at #78 on its countdown for the ''100 Greatest One Hit Wonders of the 80s''. Music video The video portrays Nova performing with his band for an audience. In its opening sequence, a man holding a Gibson Les Paul guitar and two bodyguards holding machine guns wait for someone. The men surround a landing helicopter, and the one with the guitar opens the door. Nova exits the helicopter, clad in a leopard-print jumpsuit and a pair of cowboy boots, and is escorted to the stage. When they encounter a locked door, Nova takes the guitar, holds it like a rifle, and fires a laser beam into the door, forcing it open.
