Foodland Supermarkets
IGA Foodland is an Australian supermarket chain with 96 locations, primarily in South Australia, but also in the Northern Territory and New South Wales. The stores are independently owned and operated, although several operators own multiple stores, the majority of stores are owned by Metcash, the owners of national supermarket chain IGA. History (Foodland) The Hoeper family established a grocery store in 1871, at Glenelg South in Adelaide. In 1962, it became the first store to be branded Foodland. It has been expanded and modified over the years to become a small shopping centre, and is now run by Romeo's Retail Group. Some larger stores were called Foodland SupaFresh, until Foodland decided to stop using the SupaFresh name. In 2005, the Foodland brand name was bought by Metcash-owned IGA. North Adelaide is a predominantly residential precinct and suburb of the City of Adelaide in South Australia, situated north of the River Torrens and within the Adelaide Park Lands. History Surveyor-General Colonel William Light of the colony of South Australia completed the survey for the capital city of Adelaide by 10 March 1837. Woodside is a town in the Adelaide Hills region of South Australia. The town is between Balhannah and Lobethal, from the state capital, Adelaide. Mount Barker is also nearby. Description The town is a useful traffic hub linking Oakbank, Lobethal and Charleston. It is on the Onkaparinga Valley Road, South Australian route B34, and is 25 km due East of Adelaide's CBD. Nairne, South Australia
Nairne is a small township in the Adelaide Hills of South Australia. Nairne is about from Mount Barker, South Australia, in the federal Division of Mayo and in the state electoral district of Kavel. At the 2016 census, Nairne had a population of 4,842. History Nairne was founded by Matthew Smillie in 1839 and named for his wife's family. In 1854 the District Council of Nairne was established to govern local affairs of the town and its surrounds extending past Callington to the east. Lobethal
Lobethal is a town in the Adelaide Hills area of South Australia. It is located in the Adelaide Hills Council local government area, and is nestled on the banks of a creek between the hills and up the sides of the valley. It was once the centre of the Adelaide Hills wool processing industry, which continued until around 1950. The mill buildings are now used by a number of cottage industry and handcraft businesses. At the 2016 Australian census, 2016 census, Lobethal had a population of 2,135. Littlehampton, South Australia
Littlehampton is a village in the Adelaide Hills of South Australia, located on the Old Princes Highway. It is approximately 35 minutes from the Adelaide CBD via the South Eastern Freeway. At the time of the 2016 Australian census, Littlehampton had a population of 3,522. Littlehampton was laid out in 1849 by Benjamin Gray, who named it after his native town in Sussex. By 1890, the village had become a busy industrial centre with a sawmill, brewery and various manufacturers producing jams, sauces, bacon, wattle extract. There were five brick works. Birdwood, South Australia
Birdwood is a town near Adelaide, South Australia. It is located in the local government areas of the Adelaide Hills Council and the Mid Murray Council. History Origin of the name Birdwood was originally named ''Blumberg'', by Prussian settlers originating from the area around Zullichau. The original name's origins are uncertain, but it is likely that it derives from Groß Blumberg, a village on the Oder River in the settler's area of origin. The German town name was anglicised to "Birdwood" during World War I, along with many others in the region in 1917. Balhannah
Balhannah is a town in the Adelaide Hills about 30 km southeast of Adelaide, the capital of South Australia. It was established in 1839 as a farming community by James Turnbull Thomson, who built the first hotel. The town soon grew to incorporate two once adjoining towns: Gilleston (named for Osmond Gilles) and Blythetown, named for James Blythe, another Scottish settler. It is on the main interstate railway between Adelaide and Melbourne. In the past it was the junction for a branch line that ran up the Onkaparinga Valley and beyond to Birdwood and Mount Pleasant. Norwood is a suburb of Adelaide, about east of the Adelaide city centre. The suburb is in the City of Norwood Payneham & St Peters, whose predecessor was the oldest South Australian local government municipality. Munno Para is a northern suburb of Adelaide, South Australia. It is located in the City of Playford. In the local Kaurna dialect, Munno Para means ''golden wattle creek''. Frewville is a small suburb in the South Australian city of Adelaide. It is three kilometres south-east of Adelaide's central business district (CBD). The name Frewville is taken from an early settler James Frew. Frewville is in the local government area of the City of Burnside. It has a triangular layout, bounded on the north by Flemington Street, the east by Conyngham Street, and the south-west by Glen Osmond Road.
