Fonseca is a surname of Portuguese and later also Spanish origin. A feudal lordship name from a place named for a spring that dried up during the summer months, it comes from Latin ''fons sicca'', meaning "dry well". The name is also common among Sephardic Jews. Juan Fernando Fonseca (born 29 May 1979) is a Colombian singer. Born in Bogotá, he chose music at an early age, studying music formally at institutions such as Javeriana University in Bogota and Berklee College of Music in Boston. Fonseca's self-titled debut gained him considerable attention in Colombia. His second album released Corazón (2005) explored the crossroads where pop/rock influences meet the vallenato, bullerengue, and tambora. Gratitud followed in 2008, with Ilusión arriving in 2011. Fonseca recorded Sinfónico in concert with Orquesta Sinfónica Nacional de Colombia in 2013. Released a year later. In early 2015, Fonseca was awarded La Musa Premio Triunfador by the Latin Songwriters Hall of Fame, and in May received the first-ever Contemporary Icon Award at the SESAC Latina Music Awards. ''Fonseca'' is the debut studio album by Colombian recording artist Fonseca released in February 2002 in Colombia by Líderes Entertainment Group. In 2005 was released by EMI Colombia. The album features the hit singles "Magangue", "Confiésame" and "Noche de Carnaval". Album information When Fonseca was searching to get the representation of a label, he found the Colombian musician José Gaviria and helped him in an initial recording with Sonolux five years before. Fonseca is the name of two premium cigar brands, one produced in Cuba, and the other produced in Nicaragua for two different companies. History Its founder, Don Francisco E. Fonseca was born in Manzanillo, Cuba, in 1868 (there are variations in birth years across documents). In 1892, he established both a factory and his own cigar brand in Havana. He officially registered the brand under his name in 1907. Fonseca, accompanied by his wife Teresa Boetticher de Fonseca, later immigrated to New York. Fonseca Guimaraens, often simply called Fonseca, is one of the largest Port wine houses in Portugal. Manoel Pedro Gonçalves Guimaraens and his brother João Gonçalves Salgueiro, established the company in 1822 when they acquired control of the Fonseca and Monteiro Company from the Fonseca Family by purchase of the majority of Fonseca owned shares. Fonseca is a municipality located in the Colombian Department of La Guajira. The town celebrates the Festival del Retorno in honor of St Augustine with religious celebrations, vallenato music events and others. Fonseca Atlético Clube, is a sports club from the city of Niterói in the state of Rio de Janeiro in Brazil. The club was founded on 12 October 1917 by local merchants. The club always has been at home in the street Alameda São Boaventura in the quarter Fonseca and moved to its current location there in 1926. The Gulf of Fonseca ( es, Golfo de Fonseca; ), a part of the Pacific Ocean, is a gulf in Central America, bordering El Salvador, Honduras, and Nicaragua. History Fonseca Bay was discovered for Europeans in 1522 by Gil González de Ávila, and named by him after his patron, Archbishop Juan Fonseca, the implacable enemy of Columbus. In 1849, E. G.
