Fong Foo Sec (, alternately romanized as Kuang Fuzhuo; 18691938) was a Chinese English-language educator and publicist. Born in rural Xinning County, Guangdong, Xinning County, Guangdong, China, he emigrated to the United States at age 13. He encountered virulent Sinophobia and worked as a cook for a family in Sacramento, California, before becoming involved in The Salvation Army and converting to Christianity. He enrolled at Pomona College's preparatory school in 1897, becoming the college's first Asian student. He transferred to University of California, Berkeley, UC Berkeley in 1901, and after completing his Bachelor of Letters there, earned a Master of Arts from Teachers College, Columbia University. Following graduation, he returned to China, and was offered a government position after earning a jinshi degree in the imperial examination. Liang Cheng
Liang Cheng (November 30, 1864 – February 3, 1917), courtesy name Liang Chentung, also known as Liang Pi Yuk, and later as Chentung Liang Cheng, was a Chinese ambassador to the United States during the Qing dynasty. He was primarily responsible for negotiating the return payment by the US of its share of the Boxer Indemnity for the establishment of Tsinghua University and the Boxer Indemnity Scholarship Program. Early life in the United States Liang was born in Panyu, Guangdong Province. At the age of 12, he was sent to study in the United States as part of the Chinese Educational Mission. He studied at Phillips Academy in Andover, Massachusetts, but returned to China in 1881 when the program was canceled. Cen Chunxuan (1861 – 27 April 1933), courtesy name Yunjie, was a Zhuang Chinese politician who lived in the late Qing dynasty and Republic of China. Early career Cen was born in 1861 during the late Qing dynasty in Xilin, Guangxi. His father, Cen Yuying (岑毓英; 1829–1889), served as the Viceroy of Yunnan and Guizhou. He was very ill-behaved in his youth and was one of the "Three Notorious Youngsters in the Capital" () alongside Ruicheng and Lao Ziqiao ().
