Flying In A Blue Dream (song)
"Flying in a Blue Dream" is a song by American guitarist Joe Satriani, from his 1989 studio album of the same title. It starts with a recording of a radio station teamed with emotional feedback then follows into the proper song. It is one of Satriani's most popular songs, and is still performed at all of his live concerts. Live versions can be found on the ''Live in San Francisco'', ''Satriani Live!'', and '' G3: Live in Concert'' albums. The intro heard was not planned, but was recorded nonetheless by producer John Cuniberti while recording Satriani's guitar parts for the song. Apparently, Satriani's amplifier was picking up a frequency from a radio or TV station, and Cuniberti simply said, "I'm recording this," and proceeded. Amidst the recorded speech is a young boy's voice saying "sometimes afterwards they still like each other, and sometimes they don't." John Cuniberti
John Cuniberti is an American recording engineer and producer. Career John Cuniberti was the drummer for The Rockets in the early 1970s, the original band for Eddie Money. He later managed Hyde Street Studios, where he was the recording engineer for the early albums of the punk group Dead Kennedys. He also remastered several of these albums for re-release later in his career. His first recording sessions with the band took place in a converted mom-and-pop grocery store. He was also the engineer for albums by other early punk acts, such as Victims Family and Flipper. Cuniberti co-produced Joe Satriani's debut album ''Not of This Earth'', and in 1987 he then co-produced Satriani's sophomore album ''Surfing with the Alien'', which was nominated for a Grammy Award and became a platinum-selling album. A sound check is the preparation that takes place before a concert, speech, or similar performance to adjust the sound on the venue's sound reinforcement or public address system. The performer and the audio engineers run through a small portion of the upcoming show to ensure the venue's front of house and stage monitor systems are producing clear sound, are set at the proper volume, and have the correct mix and equalization (the latter step using the mixing console). When applied to microphones exclusively, it is more commonly (and appropriately) called a mic check.
