The Papulosaceae are a family (biology), family of fungi in the class Sordariomycetes and in the subclass Diaporthomycetidae. The family has not been assigned to any order (biology), order (''incertae sedis''). A monotypic taxon, the Papulosaceae contained the single genus ''Papulosa'', which in turn contains the single species ''Papulosa amerospora''. Sordariomycetes is from the Latin sordes (filth) because some species grow in animal feces, though growth habits vary widely across the class. Sordariomycetes generally produce their asci in perithecial fruiting bodies.
