Opperdoes
Opperdoes is a village in the Dutch province of North Holland. It is a part of the municipality of Medemblik, and lies about 12 km north of Hoorn. It has a certain fame for its local variety of potatoes, "Opperdoezer Ronde". The village was first mentioned in the late 11th century as Those, and means "bog with moss". Opper (upper) could have been added to distinguish from Nederdoes, a village lost in the Zuiderzee. History The exact age of the village of Opperdoes is hard to determine. The village used to be located very close to the sea, and the area has been flooded several times. Initial settlements seem to have been abandoned after the year 300 because of large floods. New villages were later built on terps. Opperdoes used to be located 4 or 5 kilometres from the sea-dike that existed around 781. The Internationale Wielertrofee Jong Maar Moedig was a professional cycling race held annually in Belgium between 1985 and 2019. It was first held in 1985 under the name Grand Prix Jerry Blondel. In 1987 it was renamed Trophée Cycliste International Jerry Blondel. From 1998 it was known as the Internationale Wielertrofee Jong Maar Moedig. Rás Tailteann (; "Tailteann Race"), often shortened to the Rás, is an annual international cycling stage race, held in Ireland. Traditionally held in May, the race returned after a hiatus in 2022 as 5 day event held in June. By naming the race Rás Tailteann the original organisers, members of the National Cycling Association (NCA), were associating the cycle race with the Tailteann Games, a Gaelic festival in early medieval Ireland. The event was founded by Joe Christle in 1953 and was organised under the rules of the National Cycling Association (NCA).
