Flechtingen Hills
The Flechtingen Hills (german: Flechtinger Höhenzug) are a wooded, hilly upland area up to 179 m high in the northwestern part of the German state of Saxony-Anhalt, named after the town of Flechtingen. Location The Flechtingen Hills are bordered by the River Aller to the west, the Spetze, a right-hand tributary of the Aller, to the north, the valley of the Ohre to the northeast, through which the Mittelland Canal also runs, and by the Beber, a tributary of the Ohre, to the south. One of the highest elevations in the Flechtingen Hills is the ''Butterberg'' near Ivenrode at . Geology Unlike the surrounding region, geologically old rocks reach the surface of the Flechtingen Hills. It thus forms the northernmost region of bedrock in Germany, because North Germany is almost completely covered by unconsolidated rocks of the Quaternary period. Saxony-Anhalt
Saxony-Anhalt (german: Sachsen-Anhalt ; nds, Sassen-Anholt) is a state of Germany, bordering the states of Brandenburg, Saxony, Thuringia and Lower Saxony. Sedimentary rocks are types of rock that are formed by the accumulation or deposition of mineral or organic particles at Earth's surface, followed by cementation. Magdeburg Domfelsen
The Domfelsen is a rock formation near Magdeburg Cathedral, part of which juts out into the River Elbe in Germany. The name means "Cathedral Rocks" Geology The Domfelsen consists mainly of sandstone with a small proportion of siltstone. The rock is part of the rotliegendes formation and thus dates to the Lower Permian period. This outcrop of bedrock may be viewed as a continuation of the Flechtingen Hills that, in the urban area of Magdeburg, is mostly covered by a thin layer of Quaternary depositions. Significance The rocks are of particular significance for river navigation on the Elbe and also for the river's ecosystem. The rocks, which are clearly visible on the west bank below the cathedral when water levels are low, affect local current conditions. Roßlau (Elbe)
Rosslau (in German orthography: Roßlau) was until 30 June 2007 a town in Saxony-Anhalt, Germany, belonging to the district Anhalt-Zerbst. After a fusion with the town of Dessau it became eponym of the newly founded town of Dessau-Roßlau and a quarter of it. Rosslau is situated on the right bank of the Elbe, here crossed by two railway bridges, 3 mi. by rail N. of Dessau and 35 mi. S.E. of Magdeburg. Drömling
Drömling is a sparsely populated depression on the border of Lower Saxony and Saxony-Anhalt in Germany with an area of about .
