Flea (Chrono Trigger)
Flea, known as in Japanese, is a fictional character in the ''Chrono'' series of video games. He is a shapeshifter that presents as feminine but identifies as a man and, in Japanese, uses feminine signifiers in his speech. He first appears in ''Chrono Trigger'', where he serves as a subordinate to the antagonist Magus and cameos in the sequel, ''Chrono Cross''. Flea has been recognized as a noteworthy LGBT character, particularly for non-binary and genderqueer people. Critics like writer Flynn Demarco and author William Gibbons felt disappointed by the use of stereotypes of transgender people and androgyny to represent villainy. is a 1995 role-playing video game developed and published by Square. It was originally released for the Super Nintendo Entertainment System as the first game in the ''Chrono'' series. The game's development team included three designers that Square dubbed the "Dream Team": Hironobu Sakaguchi, creator of Square's ''Final Fantasy'' series; Yuji Horii, creator of Enix's '' Dragon Quest'' series; and Akira Toriyama, character designer of ''Dragon Quest'' and author of the '' Dragon Ball'' manga series. LGBT Characters In Video Games
The following is a list of confirmed video games with gay, lesbian, bisexual, or transgender characters, including any others falling under the LGBT umbrella term. The numbers in this list are possibly higher due to fact that some characters remained unconfirmed, unsourced or controversial. History During the 1980s, characters that can be argued as identifying as LGBTQ+ were rarely shown in a realistic or non-stereotypical context and were often the objects of ridicule or jokes. Adrienne Shaw (born 1983) is an American game studies scholar and Associate Professor at Temple University in the Klein College of Media and Communication. She is known for her work on queer theory and LGBTQ representation in video games.
