First Nations Junior B Lacrosse League
The First Nations Junior B Lacrosse League (formerly Iroquois Nations Junior B Lacrosse League) is a box lacrosse league sanctioned by the First Nations Lacrosse Association. The league was formed in 2014 with the restructuring of the Canadian Lacrosse Association. Four teams competed in the inaugural season. The league winner earns a spot in the Founders' Cup, the national championship of Junior B lacrosse in North America. History The first game in INJBLL history was contested between Tonawanda and Seneca on May 24, 2014 at Cattaraugus Community Center. Seneca won the game 27-4. Brandon Brooks (7 goals, 6 assists) was named Player of the Game. The WarChiefs finished a perfect 12-0 regular season and went on to win the playoff title over Onondaga 3-1 (best-of 5 series). Box Lacrosse
Box lacrosse, also known as boxla, box, or indoor lacrosse, is an indoor version of lacrosse played mostly in North America. The game originated in Canada in the 1930s, where it is more popular than field lacrosse. Lacrosse is Canada's official national summer sport. Box lacrosse is played between two teams of five players and one goalie each, and is traditionally played on an ice hockey rink once the ice has been removed or covered. The playing area is called a box, in contrast to the open playing field of field lacrosse. Elora Mohawks
The Elora Mohawks are Junior "B" box lacrosse team from Elora, Ontario, Canada. The Mohawks play in the OLA Junior B Lacrosse League. History Probably founded in the 1960s, the Mohawks started out as the Fergus Thistles. In 1963, the team moved to become the Guelph Mohawks. In 1967 the team moved to Elora, Ontario and won the Canadian Castrol Cup in that year. Akwesasne Indians
The Akwesasne Indians are Junior "B" box lacrosse team from Akwesasne (the borderlands between Ontario, Quebec, and New York). The Indians compete in the OLA Junior B Lacrosse League. History The Akwesasne Lightning joined the OJBLL in 1996. They joined around the same time that the other major Iroquois teams, Onondaga Warriors and Kahnawake Mohawks, joined the OLA. Onondaga and Kahnawake walked away after a few years in the league to join the Iroquois Nations Junior B Lacrosse League, but Akwesasne decided to stay and have become a top team in the OJBLL. The Tuscarora Reservation (''Nyučirhéʼę'' in Tuscarora) is an Indian reservation in Niagara County, New York. The population was 1,152 at the 2010 census. The Tuscarora are a federally recognized tribe and the Sixth Nation of the ''Haudenosaunee'' or Iroquois Confederacy active before the American Revolutionary War. The Tonawanda Indian Reservation ( see, Ta:nöwöde') is an Indian reservation of the Tonawanda Seneca Nation located in western New York, United States. The band is a federally recognized tribe and, in the 2010 census, had 693 people living on the reservation. The reservation lies mostly in Genesee County, extending into Erie and Niagara counties. Onondaga Reservation is a Native American reservation in Onondaga County, New York, United States. It is the territory of the Onondaga Nation. It lies just south of the city of Syracuse. The population was 2,244 at the 2010 census. The Onondaga Reservation is a politically independent entity, as the nation is federally recognized by the United States government. Akwesasne
The Mohawk Nation at Akwesasne ( ; french: Nation Mohawk à Akwesasne; moh, Ahkwesáhsne) is a Mohawk Nation (''Kanienʼkehá:ka'') territory that straddles the intersection of international (United States and Canada) borders and provincial (Ontario and Quebec) boundaries on both banks of the St. Lawrence River. Although divided by an international border, the residents consider themselves to be one community. They maintain separate police forces due to jurisdictional issues and national laws.
