Firingoti
''Firingoti'' ( Assamese: ফিৰিঙতি) is a 1992 Indian Assamese language film directed by Jahnu Barua. The film was released in 1992. Plot The story is set in 1962, the time of Sino-India war. It revolves around a widowed teacher named Ritu who is transferred to Koronga, a small Assamese village. The school here was destroyed by fire ten years earlier. Ritu takes on the challenge of rebuilding the school and starts campaigning among the villager. Ritu manages to build a school. It starts functioning under a large village-tree. Then comes a supposedly 'son of the soil' who, having lost his job there, wants to take over the school. When Ritu fights back against the threats and even physical assault, the man brings his ruffian friends and sets fire to the school house. She has to return with a heavy heart. However she is comforted by the promise of the inhabitants of reconstructing the school so that no one can suppress the spark of knowledge. Awards *National Film Award ...

Jahnu Barua
Jahnu Barua (born 1952) is an Indian film director. He has written and directed a number of Assamese and Hindi films. Some of his notable films are ''Halodhia Choraye Baodhan Khai'' (1987), '' Firingoti'' (1992), ''Xagoroloi Bohu Door'' (1995), '' Maine Gandhi Ko Nahi Mara'' (2005), ''Konikar Ramdhenu'' (2003), '' Baandhon'' (2012), and '' Ajeyo'' (2014). Jahnu Barua has been conferred Padma Shri (2003) and Padma Bhushan (2015). He served as chairman of the Indian Film Directors' Association in 1993. Sailadhar Baruah
Sailadhar Baruah ( Assamese: শৈলধৰ বৰুৱা) (December 1941 – 10 January 2010) was an eminent film producer from Assam, India. He is best remembered for his visionary contribution to Assamese Cinema as the producer of some of the greatest Assamese movies ever made, such as Halodhia Choraye Baodhan Khai and Xagoroloi Bohudoor. Early life and education He was born to Shri Padma Dhar Baruah and Smt Makanrekha Baruah in North Guwahati in December 1941. He remained a lifelong bachelor and had three brothers and a sister. Baruah did his schooling from Cotton Collegiate Higher Secondary School and graduated in Science from Pragjyotish College at Guwahati.
