''Fireworks and Darkness'' is a 2002 young adult novel by Natalie Jane Prior. It follows the story of Simeon Runciman who is a firework maker and former dark magician who is caught up in murder and magic when his enemy reappears. Natalie Jane Prior
Natalie Jane Prior is an Australian writer of children's literature and young adult fiction. Biography Prior was born in 1963 in Brisbane, Australia, where she also currently lives with her husband and daughter. She is best known for her internationally successful children's fantasy series, ''Lily Quench'', which has been published in more than twenty countries. Her first fiction book, ''The Amazing Adventures of Amabel'', was published in 1990. She is also the author of ''The Minivers'' series and many other books including the picture book ''PomPom'', illustrated by long-time collaborator, Cheryl Orsini, and three picture books about ''The Paw'', illustrated by Terry Denton. Her most recent book is ''The Fairy Dancers'', also illustrated by Cheryl Orsini. Sophie Masson is a French-Australian fantasy and children's author. Early life and education Sophie Masson was born in Indonesia of French parents who are of mixed ancestry (French, Basque, Spanish and Portuguese). Masson, the third in a family of seven children, came to Australia at the age of five and spent most of the rest of her childhood shuttling back and forth between Australia and France. The Aurealis Awards are presented annually by the Australia-based Chimaera Publications and WASFF to published works to "recognise the achievements of Australian science fiction, fantasy, horror writers". To qualify, a work must have been first published by an Australian citizen or permanent resident between 1 January and 31 December of the corresponding year; the presentation ceremony is held the following year.
