Firebase Veghel
Firebase Veghel is a former U.S. Army and Army of the Republic of Vietnam (ARVN) firebase located southwest of Huế in central Vietnam. History On 16 April 1968, the 1st Battalion, 327th Infantry began an assault on two hills approximately 27km southwest of Huế on Route 547 in preparation for Operation Delaware. The hills were finally captured on 19 April and the firebase was constructed there. The base was named after the Dutch town of Veghel, one of the drop zones during the World War II operation Market Garden, which was captured by the 501st Infantry Regiment of the 101st Airborne Division in September 1944. The 1st Division of the Army of the Republic of Vietnam (ARVN)—the army of the nation state of South Vietnam that existed from 1955 to 1975—was part of the I Corps that oversaw the northernmost region of South Vietnam, the centre of Vietnam. Operation Lam Son 719 or 9th Route – Southern Laos Campaign ( vi, Chiến dịch Lam Sơn 719 or Chiến dịch đường 9 – Nam Lào) was a limited-objective offensive campaign conducted in the southeastern portion of the Kingdom of Laos. The campaign was carried out by the armed forces of South Vietnam between 8 February and 25 March 1971, during the Vietnam War. Operation Massachusetts Striker was a joint U.S. Army and Army of the Republic of Vietnam (ARVN) military operation during the Vietnam War designed to keep pressure on the People's Army of Vietnam (PAVN) units in the southern A Sầu Valley and prevent them from mounting any attacks on the neighboring coastal provinces. Background The A Sầu Valley was an important corridor for the PAVN and Viet Cong (VC), who frequently used it to transport supplies from Laos into South Vietnam as well as employed it as staging area for attacks. 502nd Infantry Regiment (United States)
The 502nd Infantry Regiment (502nd IR), previously titled the 502nd Parachute Infantry Regiment (502nd PIR), is an infantry regiment of the United States Army. The regiment was established shortly after U.S. entry into World War II, and was assigned as a regiment of the 101st Airborne Division, "The Screaming Eagles", one of the most decorated formations of the U.S. Army. 83rd Field Artillery Regiment
The 83rd Field Artillery Regiment is a regiment of the Field Artillery Branch of the United States Army. The 1st Battalion, 83rd Artillery was formed in 1966 at Fort Sill, Oklahoma. The battalion departed for Vietnam in October 1966 and remained there until 1971 when the unit was stood down. In Vietnam, the 83rd was originally at Bear Cat, Nui Dat and Xuân Lộc but later moved to many other locations in Vietnam.
