Finsensvej
Finsensvej is a major street in the Frederiksberg district of Copenhagen, Denmark. The direct continuation of Howitzvej, it runs from Nordre Fasanvej in the east to the northern end of Sønderjyllands Allé in the west where it turns into Jernbane Allé on the municipal border with Vanløse. The street crosses Dalgas Boulevard and passes under the S-train network's Frederikssundbanen, Frederikssund radial. The modern Flintholm neighbourhood is located on the north side of the street and the Lindevangsparken, Lindevang Park on its south side. The street is named after the Nobel Prize-winning physician Niels Ryberg Finsen. History Finsensvej was established in 1755 as part of a link between Frederiksberg and Bogholdergården in Vanløse. Finsensvej and present-day Howitzvej were collectively called Lampevej (Lamp Road) from about 1860. Howitzvej
Howitzvej is a street in Frederiksberg, a municipality surrounded by Copenhagen, Denmark. It runs from Falkoner Allé in the east to Nordre Fasanvej where it turns into Finsensvej before the name changes again to Jernbane Allé on the border with Vanløse. History Howitzvej and its continuation Finsensvej was established in about 1755 and was first referred to as"The Road to the Numbers" (''Vejen til numrene'') with a reference to a series of numbered lots. The road became known as Lampevej (Lamp Road) from about 1860. Flintholm
Flintholm is a modern neighbourhood in the Frederiksberg district of Copenhagen, Denmark. Located just south of Flintholm station, on the border with Vanløse, it is the result of a redevelopment of a former gasworks site which began in 2004 and is still ongoing. The neighborhood covers an area of about 10 hectares and consists of a mixture of housing, offices, retail and several minor green spaces. The only surviving building from the gasworks, The Yellow Villa, now serves as a local cultural centre. History Flintholm takes its name from an estate which was founded when a large area of farm land which had until then belonged to Ladegården, a farm under Copenhagen Castle, was auctioned off in lots in 1765. Niels Ryberg Finsen
Niels Ryberg Finsen (15 December 1860 – 24 September 1904) was a Faroese- Icelandic physician and scientist. In 1903, he was awarded the Nobel Prize in Medicine and Physiology "in recognition of his contribution to the treatment of diseases, especially lupus vulgaris, with concentrated light radiation, whereby he has opened a new avenue for medical science." Biography Niels Finsen was born in Tórshavn, Faroe Islands, as the second-oldest of four children. His father was , who belonged to an Icelandic family with traditions reaching back to the 10th century, and his mother was Johanne Formann from Falster, Denmark. The family moved to Tórshavn from Iceland in 1858 when his father was given the position of Landfoged. Dalgas Boulevard
Dalgas Boulevard is a broad avenue in the Frederiksberg district of Copenhagen, Denmark. It runs from Roskildevej in the south to Femte Juni Plads in the north, intersecting Peter Bangs Vej and Finsensvej on the way. History The road was planned and it was already at this point decided to name it after the officer and road engineer Enrico Dalgas. Construction did not start until 1911. Sønderjyllands Allé is a street in the Frederiksberg district of Copenhagen, Denmark. It runs from Peter Bangs Vej in the southeast to Finsensvej in the northwest. History The street was created in 1914 and was originally called Diagonalvej (Diagonal Road). It received its current name in 1920 to commemorate Denmark's reunion with Sønderjylland. The surrounding area was developed over the next year and the streets were named for politicians associated with the event. Lindevangsparken is a public park in the Frederiksberg district of Copenhagen Denmark. It is in the so-called Lindevang neighbourhood (Danish: Lindevangskvarteret) between Peter Bangs Vej to the south and Finsensvej to the north.. Established in 1932, it is the oldest municipal park in Frederiksberg and with its area of 33,000 square metres is also the largest. Frederiksberg
Frederiksberg () is a part of the Capital Region of Denmark. It is formally an independent municipality, Frederiksberg Municipality, separate from Copenhagen Municipality, but both are a part of the City of Copenhagen. It occupies an area of less than 9 km2 and had a population of 103,192 in 2015. Frederiksberg is an enclave surrounded by Copenhagen Municipality.
