Finniss is a single-member electoral district for the South Australian House of Assembly. It is named after B. T. Finniss, the first Premier of South Australia. It covers a regional area which includes the localities of Back Valley, Currency Creek, Encounter Bay, Finniss, Goolwa, Goolwa Beach, Goolwa North, Goolwa South, Hayborough, Hindmarsh Island, Hindmarsh Tiers, Hindmarsh Valley, Lower Inman Valley, McCracken, Middleton, Mosquito Hill, Mount Compass, Mount Observation, Mundoo Island, Nangkita, Port Elliot, Tooperang, and Victor Harbor; as well as parts of Inman Valley and Waitpinga. Finniss, South Australia
Finniss (formerly Queen's Own Town) is a settlement in South Australia. It is on the Victor Harbor railway line just the Adelaide side of where it crosses the Finniss River. The town was originally surveyed with the name ''Queen's Own Town'' (after the Queens Own Regiment of Foot) in 1867 as the railway line was being extended from Goolwa to Strathalbyn. The name of the town was not changed to Finniss until 1940, although the adjacent railway station had already been named Finniss in honour of an early surveyor and the first Premier of South Australia, Colonel Boyle Travers Finniss Boyle Travers Finniss (18 August 1807 – 24 December 1893) was the first premier of South Australia, serving from 24 October 1856 to 20 August 1857. Finniss Conservation Park
Finniss Conservation Park is a protected area in the Australian state of South Australia located in the Mount Lofty Ranges about south of the state capital of Adelaide and about west of Ashbourne. It is located within the gazetted locality of Mount Magnificent. The conservation park consists of the following land in the cadastral unit of the Hundred of Kondoparinga - "Allotment 22 of DP 63695" and sections 107, 108 and 1963. It came into existence on 29 January 1976 by proclamation under the ''National Parks and Wildlife Act 1972'' in respect to section 1963. Land in sections 107 and 108 was added on 28 November 1985 and land in Allotment 22 was added on 23 June 2005. As of 2018, it covered an area of . The Heysen Trail, the long distance walking trail, passes along the west side of the conservation park from Ridge Road in the south to Mount Magnificent Road in the north.
