Finland
Finland ( fi, Suomi ; sv, Finland ), officially the Republic of Finland (; ), is a Nordic country in Northern Europe. It shares land borders with Sweden to the northwest, Norway to the north, and Russia to the east, with the Gulf of Bothnia to the west and the Gulf of Finland across Estonia to the south. Anna Edelheim
Anna Christina Charlotta Edelheim (3 January 1845, Helsinki – 25 May 1902, Helsinki), was a Finnish journalist. She is considered to be one of the first female journalists in Finland.Suomen kansallisbiografia (National Biography of Finland) Life Anna Edelheim was born to politician Paul Henrik Edelheim and Emilia Christina af Brunér and sister of architect Frans Edvard Edelheim. Edelheim was educated at the Svenska fruntimmersskolan i Helsingfors and then in Stockholm in Sweden. She was active as a journalist for the ''Finland'' ("Finland") in 1886-1888. As such, she has traditionally been referred to as the first professional female journalist in Finland. Saima Harmaja
Saima Rauha Maria Harmaja (8 May 1913, Helsinki – 21 April 1937) was a Finnish poet and writer. She is known for her tragic life and early death, which are reflected in her sensitive poems. She came from a prominent family; her maternal grandfather was Arvid Genetz. She wrote four collections of poetry. At the age of 15, Harmaja contracted the lung disease tuberculosis. There were good seasons and bad seasons, and in April 1937 she died at the age of 23. Anna-Leena Härkönen
Anna-Leena Härkönen (born 10 April 1965) is a Finnish writer and actress. She was born in Liminka and studied acting at the college of drama and the University of Tampere's program of drama studies, which she concluded in 1989. She won the J. H. Erkko Award in 1984 for her debut novel ''How to Kill a Bull'' ( fi, Häräntappoase). Currently Anna-Leena Härkönen lives in Helsinki and works as freelance writer; novelist and actress. A few dramatic productions, including one movie, have been adapted from Härkönen's works. Virpi Hämeen-Anttila
Virpi Hämeen-Anttila (born 15 October 1958 in Espoo) is a Finnish writer, translator, and researcher. She was the recipient of the Eino Leino Prize in 2002 along with her husband Jaakko Hämeen-Anttila, for their work in translating and promoting multicultural literature. In addition to being a best-selling novelist, she is a translator and non-fiction writer. She also teaches Sanskrit and the history of Indian art at Helsinki University. Works Hämeen-Anttila has written eleven novels, a series of four detective novels set in Helsinki in the 1920s, and a series of three youth novels (together with her daughter Maria Hämeen-Anttila). Helvi Hämäläinen
Helvi Hämäläinen (16 June 1907 – 17 January 1998) was a Finnish writer who published dozens of books of prose and poetry during her six decade writing career. Biography Helvi Heleena Hämäläinen was born in Hamina, 16 June 1907. She moved to Helsinki with her parents Aaro and Iida Hämäläinen while still a pre-schooler. Hämäläinen's first published novel, ''Hyväntekijä'' (The Benefactor) appeared in 1930, but her breakthrough came five years later with her feminist depiction of the working-class, ''Katuojan vettä'' (Water in a Gutter). Lucina Hagman
Lucina Hagman (5 June 1853, Kälviä – 6 September 1946) was an early Finnish feminist and among the first female MPs in the world due to the 1907 Finnish parliamentary election. Life and career Hagman was the daughter of police master Nils Johan Erik Hagman and Margareta Sofia Nordman, a police chief in rural Kälviä. She was the sister of the educator Sofia Hagman and writer Tycho Hagman. She became a teacher and Jean Sibelius might be the most famous individuals to study at her school. Maikki Friberg
Maria (Maikki) Elisabeth Friberg (1861–1927) was a Finnish educator, journal editor, suffragist and peace activist. She is remembered for her involvement in the Finnish women's movement, especially as chair of the Finnish women's rights organisation Suomen Naisyhdistys and as the founder and editor of the women's journal ''Naisten Ääni'' (Women's Voice).
