Finnish regional road 816 ( fi, Seututie 816; sv, Regionalväg 816) or Hailuoto Road ( fi, Hailuodontie; sv, Karlövägen) is a Finnish road between the Kempele municipality and the Hailuoto Island. The length of the road is which includes a ferry connection between mainland and the Hailuoto Island. The road starts at the roundabout in the center of Kempele, and passes the Oulunsalo district of Oulu to the shores of the Bothnian Bay to Riutunkari ferry port, from where the L/A ''Merisilta'' and L/A ''Meriluoto'' ferries run to Hailuoto to Huikku ferry port. From Huikku, the road continues through the villages of Ojakylä and Hailuoto to the Marjaniemi Lighthouse, which is located in the westernmost headland of the island. In winter, there is also an ice road between Riutunkari and Huikku. The road is the main traffic route in the Hailuoto municipality. Oulunsalo ( sv, Oulunsalo, also formerly ) is former municipality in the region of Northern Ostrobothnia, in Finland. Along with Haukipudas, Kiiminki and Yli-Ii it lost its municipal status and was merged with the city of Oulu on 1 January 2013. Kempele is a municipality south of the city of Oulu and south of the Oulu Airport in Northern Finland. Historically it was in the province of Oulu, but today it is in the region of Northern Ostrobothnia. Bothnian Bay
The Bothnian Bay or Bay of Bothnia (; ) is the northernmost part of the Gulf of Bothnia, which is in turn the northern part of the Baltic Sea. The land holding the bay is still rising after the weight of ice-age glaciers has been removed, and within 2,000 years the bay will be a large freshwater lake since its link to the south Kvarken is mostly less than deep. The bay today is fed by several large rivers, and is relatively unaffected by tides, so has low salinity. It freezes each year for up to six months. Compared to other parts of the Baltic it has little plant or animal life. Marjaniemi Lighthouse
Marjaniemi Lighthouse ( fi, Marjaniemen majakka) is a lighthouse located in the village of Marjaniemi at the westernmost point of Hailuoto island on the Gulf of Bothnia. The lighthouse is located approximately west of Oulu. The lighthouse was designed by Axel Hampus Dalström as his fourth lighthouse and it was first lit in 1872. The tower is brick masonry, and has 110 steps inside with no intermediate floors. Originally the light was equipped with a Fresnel lens system, and it displayed a white light towards a sector clockwise from south to northeast. There were two lighthouse keepers and a master until 1962 when the lighthouse was automated. A pilot station was built next to the tower, currently the pilot station serves as a hotel. Oulu Airport
Oulu Airport (; fi, Oulun lentoasema, sv, Uleåborgs flygplats) is located in Oulu, Finland, south-west of the city centre. The airport is the second busiest in Finland after Helsinki-Vantaa Airport, as measured by the number of passengers (ca. 1.1 million in 2018). There are around 20 daily flights to Helsinki.
