Finn Myrvang
Finn Myrvang (born June 20, 1937) is a Norwegian historian, folklore collector, and associate professor. Myrvang was born in at Bjørnskinn in Andøy. Until 2004 he headed the Place Name Project in Nordland, which has registered over 180,000 place names in Nordland. He has been a place name consultant for the Language Council of Norway and the Norwegian Mapping and Cadastre Authority. Myrvang has also published historical articles on Northern Norway, especially Hålogaland. He has also published several books on folklore and place names. Bjørnskinn
Bjørnskinn is a village in Andøy Municipality in Nordland county, Norway. The village of Bjørnskinn lies along the southern part of the island of Andøya, about northwest of the larger village of Risøyhamn. The village is the site of Bjørnskinn Church which serves the southern part of the municipality. The village was also the administrative centre of the old municipality of Bjørnskinn which existed from 1924 until its dissolution in 1964. Hålogaland
Hålogaland was the northernmost of the Norway, Norwegian provinces in the medieval Norse sagas. The Norwegian Association of Local and Regional Authorities ( no, KS) is an employers' organisation in Norway. It was founded in 1972 as a merger between the Union of Norwegian Cities (''Norges Byforbund'', founded in 1903) and the Norwegian Association of Rural Municipalities (''Norges Herredsforbund'', founded in 1923). The two entities were also merged between 1942 and 1945, during the German occupation of Norway. Elias Blix
Elias Blix (24 February 1836 – 17 January 1902) was a Norwegian professor, theologian, hymn writer, and a politician for the Liberal Party. Blix wrote numerous hymns and was largely responsible for translating the New Testament into the Norwegian language. Biography Born on Sandhornøy Gildeskål, Salten, in Nordland County, Norway. He attended a teacher seminary in Tromsø (1853–1855). After some years as a teacher in Tromsø, he moved to Christiania for studies in 1859. He was a student of Semitic languages. Blix graduated in 1860 and received his theological degree in 1866 and earned a '' Dr. philos.'' in 1876. Blix worked as a teacher for 25 years at the University of Oslo, where he taught Hebrew and Bible studies.
