Finland In The Eurovision Song Contest 1994
Finland participated in the Eurovision Song Contest 1994 with the song "Bye Bye Baby" written by Kari Salli and Markku Lentonen. The song was performed by the duo CatCat. The Finnish broadcaster Yleisradio (Yle) organised the national final ''Euroviisut 1994'' in order to select the Finnish entry for the 1994 contest in Dublin, Ireland. Ten entries were selected to compete in the national final on 5 March 1994 where votes from the public selected "Bye Bye Baby" performed by CatCat as the winner with 25,834 votes. Finland competed in the Eurovision Song Contest which took place on 30 April 1994. Plavka Coleridge ( née Lonich; born March 25, 1974) is an American singer. She is best known for being the singer of the German trance act Jam & Spoon, whose classically infused trance sound dominated the international charts in the mid-1990s, as well as for her previous stint with the Shamen. Biography Plavka is the daughter of a Peruvian mother and Croatian father. At age 21 she moved to London, where she provided female vocals for the seminal British acid house band the Shamen. In the early to mid-1990s, Plavka worked with, and dated, Caspar Pound, producer, composer and owner of Rising High Records. They formed Rising High Collective with producer Peter Smith. Personal life Plavka now lives in Los Angeles. She married Christopher Coleridge in 2006 and they have a daughter. Her younger brother is guitarist Yogi Lonich, who was a member of Buckcherry, Fuel, and Chris Cornell's live band. Erkki Pohjanheimo (born 28 January 1942) is a Finnish television producer and director. Television career Pohjanheimo joined Yleisradio in 1961 as a television cameraman and worked as a cameraman for five years. In 1966 Pohjanheimo was appointed director of entertainment at TV1 and later became a journalist, screenwriter and editor manager of entertainment. During the 1970s Pohjanheimo produced and directed various music programmes and collaborated with other musicians including The Spencer Davis Group, Cilla Black, Lena Horne, Sarah Vaughan, Benny Goodman and Lionel Hampton. In 1982 he produced and directed a TV concert of Canto General in two parts with Mikis Theodorakis. In 1991 Pohjanheimo did a concert with Montserrat Caballé ja José Carreras for YLE TV1 in Turku. Olli Ahvenlahti
Olli Ahvenlahti (born 6 August 1949, in Helsinki) is a Finnish pianist, composer and conductor. He is of Russian descent. Ahvenlahti succeeded Ossi Runne as the Finnish conductor at the Eurovision Song Contest for the 1990 Contest. In all, he conducted seven entries until the 1998 Contest (after which the orchestra was abolished) - the exceptions being the 1995 Contest and the 1997 Contest in which Finland did not participate. At these contests, Ahvenlahti was part of the Finnish commentary team. He has played alongside a large number of Finnish artists, most notably the UMO Jazz Orchestra in the 1970s. Ireland In The Eurovision Song Contest 1994
After winning the 1992 and 1993 contests with female soloists, Ireland selected Paul Harrington and Charlie McGettigan to represent them in 1994. Before Eurovision National final The national final was held in the University Concert Hall in Limerick on 13 March 1994. TV broadcaster and Eurovision Song Contest 1988 co-presenter Pat Kenny hosted the event. The eight songs presented were then voted on by ten regional juries. Charlie McGettigan had previously competed in Ireland's national final selection in 1984 and 1987, placing third both times. At Eurovision "Rock 'n' Roll Kids" was performed third in the running order on the night of the contest, following Finland and preceding Cyprus. The song went on to win the contest with 226 points, a 60-point lead over runner-up Poland. This was Ireland's third win in a row, and sixth overall. Sweden entered the Eurovision Song Contest, held in Dublin, Ireland. Sveriges Television continued to use the Melodifestivalen contest to select the Swedish entry. Before Eurovision Melodifestivalen 1994 Melodifestivalen 1994 was the selection for the 34th song to represent Sweden at the Eurovision Song Contest. It was the 33rd time that this system of picking a song had been used. 1,560 songs were submitted to SVT for the competition. The final was held in the SVT Studios in Stockholm on 12 March 1994, presented by Kattis Ahlström and Sven Melander and was broadcast on TV1 and Sveriges Radio's P3 and P4 networks. The Eurovision Song Contest 1993 was the 38th edition of the Eurovision Song Contest.
