Field Hockey At The 1960 Summer Olympics
The field hockey tournament at the 1960 Summer Olympics in Rome, Italy was contested from August 26 to September 9, with sixteen participating teams. Only men competed in field hockey at these Games. Pakistan won the gold medal, defeating India in the final and ending India's run of six successive gold medals. Spain won the bronze medal. Olympic Velodrome, Rome
The Olympic Velodrome ( it, Velodromo Olimpico) was a sports venue located in Rome, Italy. Constructed for the 1960 Summer Olympics, it hosted the track cycling and field hockey events. The velodrome was constructed between 1957 and early 1960. Soon after it was built problems were found, as water was draining away the foundations on one side of the velodrome. Concrete was injected into the foundations, which solved the problem only temporarily. It was last used for competition in 1968, when it hosted the UCI Track Cycling World Championships. Bruce Alexander Turner (5 August 1930 – 30 March 2010) was a New Zealand field hockey player and cricketer. He represented New Zealand in field hockey between 1950 and 1962, including at the 1956 Olympic Games in Melbourne and the 1960 Olympic Games in Rome. He represented Manawatu in hockey, and in 1976, when New Zealand won the Olympic gold medal, he was one of the national selectors.
