Helsinki Festival
The Helsinki Festival (in Finnish: Helsingin juhlaviikot, in Swedish: Helsingfors festspel) is the largest multi-arts festival in Finland. It is Finland's biggest cultural event in terms of visitors. In 2015, around 295,000 people visited the Helsinki Festival. The Helsinki Festival was established in its present form in 1968 by the City of Helsinki to follow up and to broaden the supply of culture in the mainly classical music festival then called "Sibelius viikot" ("Sibelius weeks"). The original "Sibelius viikot" festival was active from 1951 to 1965. The Helsinki Festival is an annual event, in August. The festival offers hundreds of performances and events in the Finnish capital city of Helsinki. The performances consist of theater, music, dance, art exhibitions, circus, movies, children's programs and various forms of other culture. Helsinki Comics Festival is an annual free cultural event in Helsinki, Finland. It has become the largest comics event in North-Europe. The festival is typically held in early September. Oulu International Children's And Youth Film Festival
Oulu International Children's and Youth Film Festival ( fi, Oulun kansainvälinen lasten- ja nuortenelokuvien festivaali) is an annual children's film festival held in November in Oulu, Finland. The festival has been founded in 1982 by the Oulu Film Centre. There has been Children's Film competition at the festival since 1992. The jury of ten children chooses the best film and the Starboy Award is granted to the director of the film. Other awards are the ECFA Award for the best European film, the For Tomorrow Award to the best youth film and a prize of the Media Foundation of the Evangelical Lutheran Church of Finland for a Finnish feature or short film at the film festival. Midnight Sun Film Festival
The Midnight Sun Film Festival ( fi, Sodankylän elokuvajuhlat) is an annual five-day film festival in Sodankylä, Finland. The festival usually takes place in the second week of June, but from June 14 to 18 in 2017. One of the main characteristics of the festival is to show films without a break around the clock while the sun shines around the clock. The Midnight Sun Film Festival is non-competitive. The program consists mostly of films directed by the main guests, 20–30 modern movies from all parts of the world, contemporary Finnish films and cinema classics, some of which are usually presented as "master classes" by various film theory experts. Typically, the festival introduces 4–5 young directors who are also guests of the festival. In recent years, attendance has been between 15,000 and 25,000. Espoo Ciné International Film Festival
Espoo Ciné International Film Festival is an annual event held in Espoo, Finland, in August. The festival was established in 1990 and it has since grown to be one of Finland's leading film festivals, screening about 100 feature films each year in addition to short films. Animatricks
Animatricks is annual animation festival taking place in Helsinki every April. The organization behind the festival (Palikka ry) was formed in 1999 and the first Animatricks festival took place in 2000. Animatricks is the only film festival in Finland, that concentrates purely on animation. Kaustinen Folk Music Festival
Kaustinen Folk Music Festival ( fi, Kaustisen kansanmusiikkijuhlat), celebrated yearly in July in Kaustinen, Finland, is the biggest folk music and dance festival in the Nordic countries. It was first celebrated in 1968. The festival originated in showcasing the famous local fiddle-based music tradition, which has continued uninterrupted 250 or more years, and is still the emotional core of the event. Finland has decided to propose the Kaustinen tradition into Unesco Representative List of Intangible Cultural Heritage spring 2020. In its first year, the festival expected 6,000 visitors. World Village Festival
The World Village Festival ( fi, Maailma kylässä, sv, Världen i byn) is a free music and culture festival held annually in Helsinki, Finland at the end of May. In 2021 the event will be held virtually. Over the weekend, the festival offers dozens of opportunities to act for a just world and experience music, documentary films and discussions on current issues. The event is admission free and offers much to see and do for visitors of all ages. Between 1995 and 2005 the festival was held every other year, and since 2005 annually in late May. According to the organizers, some 70,000 to 80,000 people visit the festival annually while the number of exhibitors is around 400.
