Festival Internacional De Quadrinhos
Festival Internacional de Quadrinhos (FIQ) is a comic convention held in Belo Horizonte, Brazil, every two years. History In 1997, the third edition of Bienal Internacional de Quadrinhos (''International Comics Biennial'') was held in Belo Horizonte. This was an annual comic event held previously in Rio de Janeiro in 1991 and 1993 (the 1995 edition didn't happen because it lost the financial support of the Rio de Janeiro City Hall, which made the event change to Belo Horizonte). With the definitive cancellation of Bienal after the 1997 edition, the Festival Internacional de Quadrinhos (''International Comics Festival'') was created in 1999, with the same proposal of the previous event that was to present exhibitions of comic artists from all over the world and give the opportunity for independent Brazilian authors to present their works. Troféu HQ Mix is a Brazilian comics award. The prize was created in 1989 by João Gualberto Costa (Gual) and José Alberto Lovetro (Jal), members of the Association of the Brazilian Cartoonists. Laerte Coutinho
Laerte Coutinho (born 10 June 1951), known mainly as simply Laerte, is a Brazilian cartoonist and screenwriter, known for creating comic strips such as ''Piratas do Tietê'' (''Pirates of the Tietê River''). She was part of the Brazilian underground comics scene of the 1980s. Together with Angeli and Glauco (and later Adão Iturrusgarai) she drew the collaborative comic strip '. She has done work for publications such as ''Balão'', '' O Pasquim'', and ''Chiclete com Banana'' magazines, and draws regularly for ''Folha de S. Paulo'' newspaper. Since the mid 2000s, her strips have become more "philosophical" and less humor-focused, relying less on recurring characters. She is a transgender woman. Mauricio De Sousa
Mauricio Araújo de Sousa (; born October 27, 1935) is a Brazilian cartoonist and businessman who has created over 200 characters for his popular series of children's comic books named "Turma da Mônica" or "Monica's Gang (Currently known as: Monica and friends)". At 17 years of age, he worked for a daily newspaper called ''Folha de S. Paulo, Folha da Manhã'' as a crime reporter. In 1959, Sousa quit that job and began his comic book career, and created ''Monica's Gang''. Sousa's characters were inspired by children he knew from his childhood and by his own children. His later style is slightly reminiscent of that of Osamu Tezuka, a famous Japanese Mangaka, manga artist and personal friend. Renato Canini
Renato Vinícius Canini (February 22, 1936 — October 30, 2013) was a Brazilian illustrator, known for his work in publications like ''O Pasquim'' and ''Pancada'', and for Editora Abril, where he drew Disney comics, chiefly José Carioca. He gave the character a more authorial style, and a more Brazilian identity. Career Canini' first job was at age 21, for Rio Grande do Sul state's Secretary of Education and Culture, doing illustrations for the children's magazine ''Cacique''. Julio Shimamoto
Julio Yoshinobu Shimamoto (born Borborema, May 13th, 1939), better known as Julio Shimamoto or Shima, is a Brazilian comic artist of Japanese descent. He started his career in the 1950s in the superhero comic book ''Capitão 7''. He has worked in almost all comic book publishers in Brazil in 1960s and 1970s, such as La Selva, Taika, Outubro, Ebal, Vecchi, Grafipar, Abril, among many others. His main works are ''Musashi I'' and ''Musashi II'' (2003), about the samurai Miyamoto Musashi, and ''Subs'' (2006). Lourenço Mutarelli (born April 18, 1964) is a Brazilian comic book artist, writer and actor who became well regarded in the Brazilian underground comics scene in the late 1980s and 1990s. In addition to comic books, Mutarelli has also created plays, books, and all the illustration and animated sequences of the 2004 motion picture '' Nina'', which was based on the novel ''Crime and Punishment'' by Dostoyevsky. Prêmio Angelo Agostini
Prêmio Angelo Agostini (Angelo Agostini Award), sometimes also called Troféu Angelo Agostini (Angelo Agostini Trophy), is the most traditional comics award in Brazil. It was created in 1985 by the Associação dos Quadrinhistas e Caricaturistas do Estado de São Paulo (AQC-ESP), which still organizes the event today. The award's name pays homage to Angelo Agostini, considered at the time the pioneer artist of Brazilian comics. The event also seeks to take place, whenever possible, on Dia do Quadrinho Nacional ("National Comics Day", in January 30), the same date in which, in 1869, the first episode of the Agostini's sequential art series ''As Aventuras de Nhô Quim ou Impressões de Uma Viagem à Corte'' was published. Omelete is a Brazilian entertainment website created in 2000 by Érico Borgo, Marcelo Forlani and Marcelo Hessel that covers some subjects of pop culture such as movies, comics, music, television and video games. Universo HQ
Universo HQ ("Comics Universe") is a Brazilian website about comics and considered the most important Brazilian information source on comics-related news. History Universo HQ was created by Samir Naliato and first aired on January 5, 2000. After six months, he invited the journalist Sidney Gusman to become the website's editor. Gusman also invited Sérgio Codespoti and Marcelo Naranjo to work with them, followed by many different collaborators during the years. The first journalistic highlight to Universo HQ was in 2000, when artist Jerry Robinson had an infarction during a visit to São Paulo.
