Ferran Sunyer I Balaguer Prize
The Ferran Sunyer i Balaguer Prize is a prize in mathematics, first awarded in 1993. It honors the memory of Ferran Sunyer i Balaguer (1912–1967), a self-taught Catalan mathematician who, despite a serious physical disability, was very active in research in classical analysis. This award acknowledges an outstanding mathematical monograph of an expository nature, presenting the latest developments in an active area of mathematics research. The annually awarded prize consists of as of 2017. The winning monograph is also published in Birkhauser-Verlag's series ''Progress in Mathematics''. It is awarded by the Ferran Sunyer i Balaguer Foundation. Andrea Malchiodi
Andrea Malchiodi (born September 30, 1972) is an Italian mathematician who is active in the fields of partial differential equations and calculus of variations, with several contributions to geometric analysis. Scientific activity Malchiodi received his Ph.D. in mathematics from the International School for Advanced Studies in 2000 under the supervision of Antonio Ambrosetti. He is a professor of mathematics at the Scuola Normale Superiore at Pisa. He was previously professor of mathematics at the International School for Advanced Studies and at the University of Warwick. Vladimir Turaev
Vladimir Georgievich Turaev (Владимир Георгиевич Тураев, born in 1954) is a Russian mathematician, specializing in topology. Turaev received in 1979 from the Steklov Institute of Mathematics his Candidate of Sciences degree (PhD) under Oleg Viro. Turaev was a professor at the University of Strasbourg and then became a professor at Indiana University. In 2016 he was elected a Fellow of the American Mathematical Society. Xavier Tolsa (born 1966) is a Catalan mathematician, specializing in analysis. Tolsa is a professor at the Autonomous University of Barcelona and at the ''Institució Catalana de Recerca i Estudis Avançats'' (ICREA), the Catalan Institute for Advanced Scientific Studies. Tolsa does research on harmonic analysis (Calderón-Zygmund theory), complex analysis, geometric measure theory, and potential theory. Robert Mark Goresky is a Canadian mathematician who invented intersection homology with his advisor and life partner Robert MacPherson. Career Goresky received his Ph.D. from Brown University in 1976. His thesis, titled ''Geometric Cohomology and Homology of Stratified Objects'', was written under the direction of MacPherson. George Marinescu (born 22 June 1965, Brașov) is a Romanian mathematician, specializing in complex geometry, global analysis, and spectral theory. Marinescu received from the University of Bucharest in 1988 his baccalaureate degree and in 1989 his master's degree.
