Fernando Ruiz de Castro Andrade y Portugal (14 December 1548 - 20 September 1601) was a Galician (Spanish) nobleman who was Viceroy of Naples from 1599 to 1601. He was the 6th Count of Lemos, an old title from Galicia, centered in the lands around the town of Monforte de Lemos. He was also 3rd Marquis of Sarria and a grandee of Spain. He was born at Lerma. Philosopher Tommaso Campanella was incarcerated during his tenure in Naples (1599). He also ordered the construction of Royal Palace of Naples, designed by Domenico Fontana. Enrique de Guzmán y Ribera, 2nd Count of Olivares (Spanish: ''Don Enrique de Guzmán y Ribera, segundo Conde de Olivares''; 1 March 1540 – 1607) was a Spanish nobleman and statesman. Life and career Enrique de Guzmán y Ribera was born in Madrid, the son of Pedro Pérez de Guzmán, 1st Count of Olivares, of Sevilla, and Francisca de Ribera Niño, of Toledo (Niño was her mother's family name; her father's family name was Conchillos, but she took her mother's, as it was more important). He entered the service of the royal house at a young age, and at age fourteen, he travelled in Europe with his own father in the service of prince Philip, later king Philip II of Spain. He later participated in the war in Naples and in the Battle of St. Quentin (1557), where he was wounded in a leg, something he would use for the rest of his life as an excuse to only go where it suited him. Francisco Ruiz De Castro
Francisco Ruiz de Castro y de Sandoval-Rojas (May 1579 - 1637), was a Spanish nobleman and politician the 8th count of Lemos. Biography Francisco Ruiz de Castro was born in Madrid. His father, Fernando Ruiz de Castro, was Viceroy of Naples from 1599 to 1601 and Francisco succeeded him in the same year. His elder brother Pedro Fernández de Castro, 7th count of Lemos, will be later also Viceroy of Naples in 1610–1616. Francisco remained in Naples until April 1603. In 1616 he became Viceroy of Sicily, a position he held until 1622. He played an instrumental role in establishing the Orfanotrofio del Buon Pastore in Palermo; a boy's orphanage which eventually evolved into the Palermo Conservatory of Music. In 1629, he became a Benedictine monk at the monastery of San Benito in Sahagun, with the name of Father Agustín de Castro. Domenico Fontana (154328 June 1607) was an Italian architect of the late Renaissance, born in today's Ticino. He worked primarily in Italy, at Rome and Naples. Biography He was born at Melide, a village on the Lake Lugano, at that time joint possession of some Swiss cantons of the old Swiss Confederacy, and presently part of Ticino, Switzerland, and died at Naples. He went to Rome in 1563, to join his elder brother. He began his career as a plasterer, and then as a mason and master builder, with particular expertise in measuring and technical skills. Fontana’s first architectural project was a villa in the Piazza Pasquino for Cardinal Montalto, constructed between 1577-78. Montalto later entrusted him in 1584 with the erection of the Cappella del Presepio (Chapel of the Manger) in Basilica di Santa Maria Maggiore, a powerful domical building over a Greek cross. The Royal Palace of Naples ( it, Palazzo Reale di Napoli, italic=no, nap, Palazzo Riale ‘e Napule) is a palace, museum, and historical tourist destination located in central Naples, southern Italy. It was one of the four residences near Naples used by the House of Bourbon during their rule of the Kingdom of Naples (1735–1816) and later the Kingdom of the Two Sicilies (1816-1861).
