This is a complete list of animated films released theatrically starring Felix the Cat. Short films Silent films Paramount Pictures (1919–1921) The first 25 Felix cartoons were distributed to theaters by Paramount Pictures. The character was named "Master Tom" until ''The Adventures of Felix''. Margaret J. Winkler (1922–1925) 64 cartoons General Electric (ca. 1925 commercial for Mazda Lamps) Educational Pictures (1925–1928) 78 cartoons. Sound films Copley Pictures (1929–1930) Copley Pictures was the first distributor to issue Felix cartoons with sound. Whys And Other Whys
''Whys and Other Whys'' (titled ''Whys and Otherwise'' in its sound reissue) is a 1927 silent animated short subject featuring Felix the Cat. Plot Felix is supposed to attend his job at a daycare center. Instead he spends time drinking booze at a local tavern. By the time he proceeds to his work, he is already late by several minutes. His drunkenness also slows him down. At the daycare center, the iceweasel, who is Felix's domineering buddy and colleague, is very annoyed and is even holding a car muffler. He is not happy because he had to do Felix's work as well as his. Felix finally enters the workplace, and already senses trouble brewing. To calm the iceweasel, Felix attempts to make up stories. Felix tells how he tried to buy a suit for the iceweasel as a Christmas gift he and his buddy talked about previously. Technicolor
Technicolor is a series of Color motion picture film, color motion picture processes, the first version dating back to 1916, and followed by improved versions over several decades. Definitive Technicolor movies using three black and white films running through a special camera (3-strip Technicolor or Process 4) started in the early 1930s and continued through to the mid-1950s when the 3-strip camera was replaced by a standard camera loaded with single strip 'monopack' color negative film. Technicolor Laboratories were still able to produce Technicolor prints by creating three black and white matrices from the Eastmancolor negative (Process 5). RKO Pictures
RKO Radio Pictures Inc., commonly known as RKO Pictures or simply RKO, was an American film production and distribution company, one of the "Big Five" film studios of Hollywood's Golden Age. The business was formed after the Keith-Albee-Orpheum (KAO) theater chain and Joseph P. Kennedy's Film Booking Offices of America (FBO) studio were brought together under the control of the Radio Corporation of America (RCA) in October 1928. RCA chief David Sarnoff engineered the merger to create a market for the company's sound-on-film technology, RCA Photophone, and in early 1929 production began under the RKO name (an abbreviation of Radio-Keith-Orpheum). Two years later, another Kennedy holding, the Pathé studio, was folded into the operation. By the mid-1940s, RKO was controlled by investor Floyd Odlum. Van Beuren Studios
The Van Beuren Corporation was a New York City-based animation studio that produced theatrical cartoons as well as live-action short-subjects from the 1920s to 1936. History In 1920, the Keith-Albee organization formed Fables Pictures for the production of the Aesop's Film Fables cartoon series with Paul Terry, who himself owned 10 percent of the studio. Producer Amedee J. Van Beuren bought out the studio in 1928, retaining Terry and renaming the business after its new owner. Van Beuren released Terry's first sound cartoon '' Dinner Time'' (1928) (a month before Disney's ''Steamboat Willie'') through Pathé Exchange, which later became part of RKO Pictures. Terry ran the animation studio while Van Beuren focused on other parts of the business. In 1929, Terry quit to start his own Terrytoons studio and John Foster took over the animation department. Forty Winks (1930 Film)
''Forty Winks'' is an animated short film made by the Pat Sullivan Studio, and is among the Felix the Cat shorts. Plot One evening, Felix serves as a conductor to four singing cats. Meanwhile at a house only a few yards away, a hefty man is napping on a chair but gets awakened by their act. To silence them, the man grabs and rolls out a bowling ball, knocking Felix and the other cats off their feet. Felix, however, still insists to go on performing as he plays a flute and his friends dance. Awakened once more, the man takes out an ether sprayer and showers its contents onto the cats. While his friends fall into a snooze, Felix decides to have his sleep at home. Felix enters his apartment, and lies on the sofa. But before he can rest long enough, his dwarf master calls him over. Felix comes in and hears about the dwarf's complaint about an insomnia problem. To assist his master, the cat offers a glass of warm milk but to no effect. Woos Whoopee
''Woos Whoopee'' (sometimes referred to as ''Felix the Cat in Woos Whoopee'' or ''Felix Woos Whoopee'') is a surreal, animated 1930 Felix the Cat short subject produced by Pat Sullivan. Summary The short opens with a long shot of a large, urban building swaying in time to the loud strains of "There'll Be a Hot Time in the Old Town Tonight" within, added to the film in later years. Next, the entrance to the "Whoopee Club" is shown with letters spelling out the name of the establishment one at a time. The camera, and therefore the viewer, is "brought into" the club through the front door. A group of anthropomorphic barnyard animals, among them Felix the Cat, are shown drinking and carousing. Felix himself is first shown standing atop a table with a foaming mug of beer in hand. Party horns are blown and confetti is thrown in the air as Felix downs his mug of beer. April Maze
''April Maze'' is a 1930 short animated cartoon featuring Felix the Cat. It was produced by Pat Sullivan. Plot Felix brings his nephews Inky and Winky to the park for a picnic. However, they always seem to be delayed. While they say their grace, a rabbit gets a snake to steal their meal. When they try to get it back, it rains so they must go back home. The rain stops and the three continue to the picnic. It rains again for a short while, but then it gets better. They say their grace again before eating, and someone else steals their meal. Felix runs after the culprit however, he can't catch him. At the end of the story, a stork comes with a picnic basket. Hoping the stork has found his meal, Felix opens the basket with joy, but he finds out it is just more kittens who jump about as the cartoon ends.
