Felix Cobbold
Felix Thornley Cobbold (8 September 1841 Ipswich – 6 December 1909) was a British banker, barrister and Liberal Party politician. He was a member of the Ipswich Cobbold brewing family but not a brewer himself. Life Felix was born in Holywells Mansion, Ipswich. He was the son of John Cobbold, Member of Parliament for Ipswich, and his wife Lucy, daughter of Henry Patteson (sometime Rector of Drinkstone and of Wortham, Suffolk). John Cobbold, Thomas Cobbold and Nathaniel Cobbold, grandfather of Cameron Cobbold, 1st Baron Cobbold, were his elder brothers. He was educated at King's College, Cambridge, and later became a senior fellow of this college. Cobbold also sat as Member of Parliament for Stowmarket in Suffolk between 1885 and 1886, and for Ipswich between 1906 and his death. Stowmarket (UK Parliament Constituency)
Stowmarket was a parliamentary constituency centred on the town of Stowmarket in Suffolk. It returned one Member of Parliament (MP) to the House of Commons of the Parliament of the United Kingdom, elected by the first past the post voting system. History The North-Western or Stowmarket Division was one of five single-member county divisions of the Parliamentary County of Suffolk created by the Redistribution of Seats Act 1885 to replace the existing two 2-member divisions for the 1885 general election. It was formed from parts of the Western Division of Suffolk and included the towns of Stowmarket and Newmarket. It was abolished by the Representation of the People Act 1918 when the majority of the Division was absorbed into the new Bury St Edmunds Division of West Suffolk, with a small area in the east, including Stowmarket itself, transferred to the Eye Division of East Suffolk. Silvester Horne
Charles Silvester Horne (1865–1914) was a Congregationalist, Congregational minister, who additionally served as Liberal Party (UK), Liberal Member of parliament, MP for Ipswich (UK Parliament constituency), Ipswich, and was a noted orator. He was the father of the humorous broadcaster, Kenneth Horne. Childhood He was born in Cuckfield, Sussex, on 15 April 1865, the youngest child of Charles Horne, the minister of Cuckfield Congregational Church, and his wife, whose maiden name was Harriet Silvester Simpson. When he was six weeks old the family moved to Newport, Shropshire. Here Charles Horne gave up the ministry, becoming the editor of the local newspaper, the ''Newport Advertiser'' and became a partner of his wife's uncle, Charles Silvester in a printing and bookselling firm. Sir Charles Dalrymple, 1st Baronet, (15 October 1839 – 20 June 1916) was a Scottish Conservative politician. Life Born Charles Fergusson, he was the second surviving son of Sir Charles Dalrymple Fergusson, 5th Baronet, and grandson of Sir James Fergusson, 4th Baronet, and his wife Jean, daughter of David Dalrymple, Lord Hailes. Sir James Fergusson, 6th Baronet, was his elder brother. On the death of his father in 1849 he assumed the surname of Dalrymple in lieu of Fergusson. He was educated at Harrow School and Trinity College, Cambridge, graduating with third-class honours in classics. He was called to the bar at Lincoln's Inn in 1865. Edward Greene (MP)
Edward Greene (17 August 1815 – 5 April 1891) was an English brewer and Conservative politician who sat in the House of Commons between 1865 and 1891. Greene was the son of Benjamin Greene, a West Indies Slave owner, who established the Greene King brewery in Bury St Edmunds in 1799. Greene was educated at the Grammar School at Bury St Edmunds and in 1836 took over the management of the brewery company from his father. He expanded and diversified the company significantly, doubling the brewery workforce to fifty and increasing output to 40,000 barrels a year by 1870. Greene introduced unprecedented benefits for his workforce including a pension scheme and new standards of housing for his workers. He was a J.P. and Deputy Lieutenant for Suffolk and a master of the Suffolk Fox Hounds.
